WATER HYGIENE! CLEAN WATER!!!
FOR HUMANS AND ANIMALS
Water is life! For humans and animals to be healthy, glowing, productive and eñjoy quality life.
Therefore to make our water safe for drinking and household use; be it rain water, borehole water or community piped water we need to have it treated.
There are natural rocks for sedimenting dirt in water and chlorine which disinfects water making it safe for consumption.

With the short rains across most parts of Kenya, we urge us the farmers to be vigilant in the following areas:
1.ANIMAL HEALTH
Most disease causing bacteria's in animals multiply to large numbers making our animals sick. To minimize challenges from this do the following:
-observe hygiene in the cow shed/goat pen, personal hygiene for milking people,hygiene for the milking equipment.
-if there is a sick cow/dairy goat start by milking the healthy ones first then the sick ones last. Pay attention to each animal as you milk just in case you notice anything unusual talk to a vet near you.
-TEAT dipping after milking using MASTRITE to keep mastitis away.
-proper and enough feed.

GARDENING
Plant enough vegetables and short seasoned plants to make sure you have enough food when this season is out. NB: you don't need a big farm to plant veges, you can do sacks or tyres

EGGS
They are tiny and precious, fragile yet carries life. Eggs have in so many ways helped is: nutrition wise, financially and at times therapeutic to watch.
HATCHING:
Eggs to be hatched should be fertile, from an infectious disease free flock and without cracks.
They should have been laid within 5-7days prior to hatching as at this point the fertility of the egg is high. The more it stays, the less fertile it is.
STORAGE
Eggs to be hatched should be stored well. Use clean, quality trays to avoid breakage and diseases.
Store with the pointed tip downward and the rounded end upwards this ensured that there is enough air circulation and the embryo does not die.

CONSTIPATION AT HOME/FARM
This when the animals have an enlarged than normal abdomen, has difficulty in passing stool and stool that is passed out is dry and hard and if extreme the animals are off feed and lying on the ground at times breathing heavily. For cows you notice abit of sweating on the nose area.
To deal with this, a product such as EPSOM salt cones in handy

Hygiene in Animal farming:
Dairy farming: be it cows or goats hygiene is very important as a dirty contaminated environment contributes to presence of diseases hence lowering production and our focus is nutrient availability to humans and improvement of our economic status:
Hygiene in dairy farming include:
1. Clean milking equipments(milking machine,gallons, jugs,towels and any other item used at the farm)
2.clean cowshed and milking parlour/milking shed
3.clean personal gear during milking especially in big farms like overalls and gumboot
4.clean footbaths with disinfectants at points of entry in large farms
HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THIS:

Day 2.
The fight against Covid 19 is still on. Let's soldier on family. Together we shall come out strong.
Today on milk production for nutrient availability to humans we are focusing on one thing. The udder and teats. Injured, poorly maintained teats of a cow or dairy goat will contribute to loses. The teats therefore, to minimize injuries should be kept moist and healthy. To do this we use milking salve.
1.If machine milking do the following. Clean the udder well, dry using a clean towel then milking after which you oil the teats and deep in mastrite solution.
2.If hand milking clean your hands, clean the udder, oil your hands lightly with milking salve then milk after milking oil the teats then dip in mastrite solution.
The above methods will go along way to ensure the teats are healthy thus production of milk will be at its best.

Let's talk today about milk production;
Its not to how beautiful a cow is or to the finest of breeding only, for milk production to be at its optimum we need to manage the following:
1.Disease; proper udder cleaning, proper milking, teat dipping after milking, teat oiling, clean cow shed, personal hygiene for hand milking
2.Feeding; whether zero grazed or free grazers, make sure the cow s get good pasture or fodder, supplement using the right products depending on the status of your cow I.e a milking cow wound need more supplements geared to milk production and a cow ready to be served would need supplements/salts that will make it come on heat at a the right time.ï
