“Heaven goes by favor.

If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.”- Mark Twain

“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace.”-Milan Kundera

I have spent some time reading the Boerboel book by Lukas van Vuuren of Spitsvuur Kennel. I have decided to give a short summary of my findings, in connection with some of the most prominent males that people often refer to. I don't own the rights to the book and it can be bought via the website, I just share my findings and understanding from what I take to heart after reading this phenomenal book. https://www.amazon.com/Boerboel-Breeding-Lukas-van-Vuuren-ebook/dp/B08HNHHJZZ

It's hard to find something so honest and open and where you can learn, good or bad. No dog is perfect, this is why I found this very valuable. In time I will write more on other males as time goes on, and I also think its important to find something similar on females.

Bullet Otto Fouchee, a son of Avontuur Anton and descended from Zantah Boston, was known for his size, weighing over 100 kg towards the end of his life. Despite his large build, he had a good head and strong body, producing better daughters than sons. According to the book, he carried the hyperplasia gene. Showing off his speed-type qualities, he often produced well-muscled progeny and was a reserve South African champion.

Cabaret Klein Buks, son of Corma Buks, stood out for his broad build and strong legs, with a top-line trait that he passed on to his progeny. He set a standard for correct, large bi***es with perfect top lines and croups in a time when this was rare.

Cabaret Pavarotti, a result of careful planning, stood out for his balanced qualities and exceptional breeding ability. He proved to be an outstanding sire, producing countless superb progeny with consistent characteristics. With a good show record, he eventually became national champion, showcasing his breeding prowess and reliability in passing on his traits to his offspring.

Cabaret Son of a Gun son of Targus Pocket Money and Katera, is known for his impressive speed-type build with good top line, croup, and legs, albeit lacking a bit in head size. He had the ability to produce size and finish in one generation.

Cabaret Straatkat, a son of Cabaret Klein Buks, surpassed his father in certain characteristics, particularly head size and bearing. He was considered the best male of his time for breeding top progeny, excelling in traits like head, size, bearing, top, croup, chest, and legs.

Corma Buks, a grandson of Lourina Mac, was slightly below average in size with a medium-sized slightly round head, droopy rump, straight back legs, and good muscle. Despite initial doubt, he produced excellent offspring, including a long-lived piebald sister with superb genes.

Klein Sandfontein Benji, son of Mauzer Oliver Twist and Maranata Kia, was a champion male with promising progeny, gradually improving in quality. He shared genetic issues with Maranata Brolloks.

Linjo Thabo, son of Roenard Martiens and Gretchen Helga, was a strong carrier of the hyperplasia gene and had issues with elbows turning in under the chest. Despite these problems, his offspring with Cabaret 217 Tosca were beautiful, although one female had complications requiring euthanasia.

Lourina Mac was a highly influential male Boerboel with a pedigree that is prevalent in the breed. He carried the hyperplasia gene and was known for his exceptional qualities. Mac was a power-type male with strong features and musculature, making him a valuable forefather for the breed. Mac possibly being a full brother of Donkerhoek Kaalpoot.

Maestro Trompie, from the same lineage as Maestro Koos, Nada, and Raisa, represented a new era in the breed with his imposing head and muscles.

Middelpos Alpha, a son of Groenberg Rambo and Middelpos Trix, was renowned for his overall appearance, though some of his progeny had minor faults. He was a power-type Boerboel and his use of AI had a positive impact on the breed. Dogs like Alpha are rare and valuable assets to the breed.

Nostras Middelpos Janus, son of Avontuur Anton and Zantah Boston's daughter, was an imposing dog with a better head and temperament than his father, but carried the hyperplasia gene.

Nostras Rocky, son of Gretchen Bento and Leo Nium, was a successful show male with good progeny, despite Luka's initial hesitation due to prolapse concerns.

Oppibult Tolla 2, son of Gretchen Jasper and Bobaas Bella, had a powerful posture and good muscling, head, and legs.

Piet Zyn Drift Bastron 1, son of Nostras Rocky and Zantah Boston's daughter, was a standout breeding male with an impressive stature and successful offspring, including national champions Groenberg Pippa and Groenberg Rambo.

Piona Lugar was known for his athleticism and speed, with strong correctness and mobility. He produced exceptional progeny with Maestro Koos being one of them.

Spitsvuur Argief was Lugar's son, but disappeared shortly after being given to Oom Lukas van der Merwe. Many of Lugar's children were ordinary dogs with issues like small heads and hip problems.

Piona Oubaas, a well-bred male, had outstanding offspring like Roenard Martiens. While some had good heads, others struggled with head quality. They excelled in the hindquarters.

Roenard Martiens had daughters with vaginal issues, often attributed to his father, Dopper Oubaas.

Piona Vegter was a renowned male Boerboel known for his athleticism and correct build, as well as for carrying the gene for cream-colored dogs. Roenard Martiens, son of Piona Oubaas and Roenard Mitz, was also famous but lost popularity over time due to being a carrier of the prolapse gene.

Spitsvuur Argief, son of Piona Luger and Jaws Tosca, received high marks but was not widely used in breeding due to lacking essential masculinity. His sister, Spitsvuur Tessa, was considered the best-looking of the litter and remains an example of a top Boerboel bitch.

Spitsvuur Magic is a highly rated dog with a score of 98.2%. He is the son of Maranata Brolloks and Spitsvuur Maja, and has great breeding potential. While he may have some physical imperfections, he moves well and has been successful in producing quality offspring without health issues. Spitsvuur Mandaat, on the other hand, had a score of 86% and was known for his muscular build and good chest and legs. He was a good breeder and passed on his traits to his progeny. Spitsvuur Marmer, with a score of 82%, was a successful sire with exceptional offspring, including Keur Alfa, who received the highest score in the breed. Despite some minor flaws in his progeny, Marmer was able to produce correct and successful show dogs. Overall, these three dogs from the Spitsvuur lineage have made significant contributions to the breed, with Magic standing out as a top performer in terms of scoring and breeding success.
