Recently, a compassionate owner visited Animal Mama Hospital with two adorable yet weak and tiny kittens they had purchased from a pet store. Concerned for their health, the owner brought them in for a thorough checkup. After running careful examinations, we found the proble: ear mites, ringworm.
What is Ringworm?
Despite its name, ringworm isn’t a worm! It’s a fungal infection that affects the skin, hair, and nails of pets. It causes patchy areas of hair loss, redness, and sometimes scaly or crusty skin. In kittens and other animals, it developes in weak immune systems or overcrowded, unsanitary environments — common in pet store settings.
Ringworm spreads through:
🔴 Direct contact: With infected animals or contaminated objects like bedding, brushes, and toys.
🔴 Environment: Spores in the environment can cling to surfaces and infect pets.
What are the signs of ringworm in pets?
Look out for:
✨ Patchy hair loss with circular shapes.
✨ Scaly, red, or crusty skin, particularly around the face, ears, tail, or paws.
✨ Mild itching (though not always).
Treatment & Care
Treating ringworm involves:
✅ Antifungal medications: These help kill the fungus over time.
✅ Topical treatments: Creams or shampoos to target the affected areas.
✅ Cleaning: Disinfect your home, especially areas where your pet rests, to remove lingering spores.
💡 PEOPLE CAN CATCH IT
Yes, ringworm is zoonotic, meaning humans can catch it from their pets! It often appears as red, itchy, circular patches on the skin. If you suspect exposure, consult your doctor for advice and treatment.
When buying a pet, ALWAYS ask for veterinary documents
Purchasing animals from pet stores can be risky if proper care isn’t ensured. Always ask for health records and proof of veterinary exams. In the case of these kittens,

🐦 Meet Ru Yi, the adorable parrot who recently visited Animal Mama Hospital!🐦
🐦 ជួបជាមួយ Ru Yi ដែលជាសត្វសេកដ៏គួរអោយស្រលាញ់ ដែលទើបតែមកមន្ទីរពេទ្យ Animal Mama!🐦
Meet Ru Yi, the handsome guy, who recently visited us in Siem Reap! His owner was worried because Ru Yi had been acting lethargic and had unusually wet droppings.
After examining him, we took a fecal sample and ran some blood tests. Of course, Ru Yi was watching every step we made!
The results? Ru Yi tested positive for Giardiasis, a parasitic infection caused by Giardia, which can lead to digestive issues, dehydration, and fatigue if not treated promptly.
💡 How do birds usually get Giardiasis?
Birds, including parrots, typically get infected by coming into contact with contaminated food, water, or surfaces where Giardia cysts are present. Poor hygiene and overcrowded environments, such as shared cages or aviaries, increase the risk. Outdoor birds might contract it by drinking from unclean water sources or interacting with infected wild birds.
💡 How to protect your bird from Giardiasis:
🦜Hygiene is crucial: Regularly clean and disinfect food and water bowls, toys, perches, and the cage.
🦜Provide clean, safe water: Ensure your bird has access to fresh, uncontaminated drinking water at all times.
🦜Quarantine new birds: Any new bird brought into your home should undergo a health check and a quarantine period to prevent the spread of diseases.
🦜Minimize wild bird interaction: Limit your parrot’s exposure to wild birds or outdoor water sources.
Schedule regular check-ups: Routine veterinary visits can help catch infections early and maintain your bird’s overall health.
Luckily, Ru Yi is now on the right treatment and is already showing signs of improvement!
Parrots, like all pets, benefit greatly from regular check-ups to detect potential health issues early.

Recently, Animal Mama Hospital had the honor of caring for a tiger cub in need. This young cub was brought to us during emergency hours, suffering from a limp that required immediate attention. Though he’s still small, handling even a baby tiger requires special skills and safety measures! To ensure a thorough examination, our expert veterinary team sedated the cub and performed a complete health check, including blood tests, stool analysis, and a full x-ray scan.
The X-Ray Results: Upon reviewing the scans, it became clear — this little one is simply growing! Growth in young animals can sometimes lead to temporary leg discomfort. To support his recovery, we introduced laser therapy, a cutting-edge, non-invasive treatment that uses targeted light energy to penetrate deep tissues, reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and promote natural healing.
What Is Laser Therapy and Why Is It Effective?
Laser therapy is a non-invasive veterinary treatment that uses focused light energy to reduce inflammation, speed up tissue repair, and provide natural pain relief. It’s especially beneficial for animals with muscle and joint pain, and it’s the perfect solution for our young tiger’s growing pains. This innovative treatment stimulates cells to accelerate tissue repair, improve blood flow, and naturally ease discomfort.
After several sessions of laser therapy, we’re thrilled to report that this brave cub is feeling much better and is back to his playful self!
A Reminder About Wildlife: Wild animals belong in the wild. Tigers and other wild creatures have complex needs that cannot be met as pets. Keeping them as pets not only endangers the animal but also
🌟 Meet Fa Fa, the sweet-tooth Parrot! 🌟
🌟 ជួបជាមួយ Fa Fa ដែលជាសេកចូលចិត្តផ្អែម! 🌟

Fa Fa, a colorful parrot with a big personality, recently visited Animal Mama Hospital after experiencing diarrhea and an infection in his eye. Our dedicated team performed a thorough examination, including stool tests, to uncover the cause of his discomfort.
It turns out Fa Fa had some chocolate, which caused his upset stomach and loss of appetite!
Attention, parrot owners! Chocolate contains both theobromine and caffeine which can cause vomiting and diarrhea, increase heart rate, result in hyperactivity, induce tremors and seizures, and even cause death in birds.
After applying medication to his eye and educating his owner about the proper diet for parrots, we’re confident Fa Fa is on the road to recovery.
Let’s wish Fa Fa a fast and smooth recovery! 💚🦜

Yes, me made fun of one of our chats. But actually, the topic isn’t funny at all.
The veterinary profession faces significant emotional challenges, largely due to interactions with insensitive and rude clients. Such behavior contributes to a toxic work environment, leading to feelings of inadequacy, burnout, and distress among veterinary professionals. The pressure to provide compassionate care while facing hostility can result in high levels of anxiety and depression.
A troubling trend is the expectation for free services, often accompanied by guilt-inducing remarks suggesting that veterinarians do not care for animals if they charge. This mentality further strains veterinary professionals, making them feel undervalued.
Globally, the mental health crisis among veterinarians has reached alarming levels, with studies indicating higher suicide rates compared to the general population. To combat this, clients must recognize their responsibility for respectful behavior.
At Animal Mama, we are committed to maintaining a positive environment and will refuse service to anyone who does not show respect and courtesy to our staff.
We inisist that a culture of respect is essential to support the well-being of veterinary professionals and mitigate the risk of suicide in this dedicated field.

🐾❤️ Meet Lucky: The True Definition of Resilience! ❤️🐾
🐾❤️ ជួបជាមួយឡាក់គី៖ ដែលសបញ្ជាក់ពីការតស៊ូយ៉ាងពិតប្រាកដ! ❤️🐾 Khmer below
Lucky is a handsome boy with a truly heartbreaking story. We first met him during one of our Rabies Free Cambodia missions when locals led us to an abandoned house where he had been locked away for three long years. The house was in disrepair, with no roof and filled with trash and sharp objects. During rainy seasons, it flooded, and in the heat, it was unbearably hot. Lucky survived in those conditions as passersby tossed garbage, while locals feared him, believing he was aggressive. Sometimes, people were throwing pieces of food, and leaving some water, so poor dog would live.
Our compassionate team couldn’t ignore Lucky’s situation – we knew we had to rescue him. After returning to the house and clearing out the trash to open the entrance, we finally freed Lucky after 20 long minutes. He was scared, confused, and uncertain of the world outside.
We immediately brought Lucky to Animal Mama Hospital for a thorough examination. Our dedicated vets conducted blood tests, deworming, vaccinations, microchipping, and desexing. We patiently were waiting for the moment he would wake up, and when he did, we were blown away by his transformation! Lucky turned out to be an incredibly cuddly, friendly, and kind boy, showing no signs of the supposed aggression.
Now, after a month of care and rehabilitation, Lucky is ready to find his forever home! He has completed the full pagoda protocol, which includes all core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, parasite prevention, desexing, and microchipping.
