This gentle little bean was just rescued by a kind community member and has come to @wecare_srilanka for emergency treatment 😥 She must be in agony. Things are tough here and we need sponsors for her care… Please donate if you can 🙏🏼
We will keep you updated on this beauty but, at this stage, it doesn’t look as though we will be able to save her leg. Relieving her pain is our priority right now, we appreciate your support 🙏🏼🙏🏼

✨ BABE UPDATE ✨
Babe was rescued from the streets of Sri Lanka with a wire embedded in his neck 😰
Our clinical team has removed the wire but the swelling is very severe 🥺
He doesn’t want to be touched at the moment and who can blame him? He must have been in so much distress and discomfort. We still can’t be sure of his prognosis but he’s alive and we are so thankful for that 💛
We will continue to update you- it’ll be a long road but hopefully we see positive progression week-on-week 🙏🏼
Thank you to everyone who has donated towards his care, he have literally changed his life 🫶🏻
We've found this girl covered in maggot wounds and struggling to survive. Covered by thousands of swarming flies, alone in an outdoor toilet.
Will you help? Donate today.

🇱🇰 HELP US FIND A HOME FOR MIRISSA 🇱🇰
Mirissa needs a home in Sri Lanka! She's a gorgeous, 3-legged girl. She’s 4 years old, 13.6kg and a big bundle of love!
She can’t live with other dogs, and needs a home that’s fenced or walled off so other roaming dogs can’t come in.
She absolutely adores human affection and attention, and would be a loyal best friend for life 💙
If you could potentially give Mirissa a home, then please get in touch. DM us or email [email protected] - thank you!

Could you give JAKE the perfect home in the UK? 🇬🇧
For the first time, we’re bringing multiple dogs over to their new forever homes in the UK this April - yep, as in.. next month and we’ve got less than a week to add them to the flight. 👀
Jake desperately needs a home, and deserves it too. He’s a gorgeous 3-legged boy, who’s cuddly, playful and silly. A perfect, loyal, loving companion 💙

🇬🇧 ZOE NEEDS A HOME IN THE UK! 🇬🇧
Her bags are packed, she’s ready to fly in April ✈️ (into the country and your heart! 💖)
She’s been at WECare for 3 years now, she’s a little bit of a challenge - in the sense that she’s a wee bit nervous and grouchy around other dogs and certain humans. BUT, we know her well. We believe that in a committed home, filled with love and patience, she would be an amazing companion. She’s suuuper smart, funny and just downright gorgeous. 😍🤗

Why WECare? Sutures!
Sutures! Not seem the most exciting topic, but it's a super important one when it comes to our line of work... no pun intended 😏
Choosing an appropriate suture material can be the difference between life-threatening complications or a quick turnaround with a healthy patient leaving your clinic or outreach programme 🐕
There are LOTS of different types of suture material, with differing characteristics, which might be a bit much for an Insta post, but essentially, if you are an owner, guardian or animal welfare worker in Sri Lanka and want the best for your pet or community dog, then the MAIN thing you have to know is ABSORBABLE or NON-ABSORBABLE ‼️
Absorbable suture material (the most common are VICRYL (PGA) or PDS) is the ONLY suture material that should be used internally. If you are operating on an animal that isn't in a position to come back for skin suture removal 10 days later (i.e. most dogs in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰), then absorbable suture material should also be used in the skin.
Non-absorbable suture material is usually known as NYLON which is essentially fishing wire (can be white or blue). This should only EVER be used externally, i.e. in the skin - we can't stress this enough! 😅
Used internally, this can cause horrible adhesions, potentially fusing bits of organs together, and can also become an awful nidus for infection, resulting in peritonitis and sometimes, death. 😔
So why is it frequently used in undeveloped or developing countries? 🌎 Because it's cheap. But cost-cutting isn't worth it; the risk is too high, and supposed animal-welfare charities haggling vets on cost and forcing them into using sub-standard material is the absolute opposite of welfare work.
Surgery is about quality, not quantity... especially when 'death' is listed as a contraindication to using nylon! 😳
Raising standards is everyone's responsibility - vets, owners and animal welfare organisations- so let's ensure we support each other on that journey by
