Did You Know .... a Sore Back Is In Many Cases Behind The Neck Problems Too?

'Cos It’s all connected..

The long back muscles, like the longissimus dorsi, don’t just stop at the back. They run from the pelvis all the way up into the neck C3-4, connecting across multiple joints and vertebrae with ligaments and fascia.

If the back is sore or tight, the horse may:

* Brace through the neck, pull the neck backwards
* Struggle to flex or bend
* Show resistance in the contact
* Compensate with tension in the poll or jaw, grind the bit

This is why a full- body approach in massage is very important. Treating one area without addressing the primary issue in the muscle chain, won’t give lasting results.

WHY TO GET YOUR HORSE A SPORT MASSAGE?

Whether your horse is a pet horse at home or a grand-prix level sports horse, having them in a regular massage therapy program has shown to create significant benefits to their ongoing health and wellbeing.

Horses are about 60% muscle and every bone is moved by a muscle. The muscles cross either one joint or several joints.

Just as with us humans , horses can and will develop a variety of muscle strains, tears or fatigue doing their physical activities or daily lifestyles.

Supple muscles have been shown to prevent tendon and joint injuries in horses and as with humans, many horses will be visibly relaxed when being treated to a massage.

Massage therapy is regarded as one of the most effective therapies in maintaining a healthy musculoskeletal system.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS..

1. Increase the horses flexibility

Equine massage therapy has shown to reduce muscle fatigue, inflammation with the structure of the muscle, or tightness within the muscle or tendon.

2. Improve the horses suppleness

Massage therapy for horses will also improve the muscle suppleness.
Suppleness directly relates to a combination of unrestricted movement within a horses muscles, tendons, ligaments or joints.

3. Assist the horses recovery process

A regular massage therapy sessions will help free the body from muscle fatigue and cramps by increasing the oxygen within the blood and helping to repair any damaged muscles or tendon fibres.

4. Providing pain relief to the horse

Massage therapy can also help reduce lactic acid build up which in turn will reduce soreness and cramping muscles.

5. Prevention of injuries

Massage therapy - as well as other treatments such as PEMF, Hoofmeg etc - can significantly help prevent certain types of injuries.

By providing an ongoing massage program to your horse aimed at preventing an injury is an important step to maintaining a sound horse.

Including massage and regular stretching into your ongoing routine can play a significant role in keeping your horse happy and in tip-top shape.
