Early this week, record gusts of wind ripped through the valley. Fortunately there was minor damage but the winds did slightly bend parts of our wind-rated solar panel array that powers 100% of our mill operations. With some temporary reinforcements installed today our arrays should be ready for whatever our changing climate sends our way.

We’ve been fortunate that Ait Bouguemez only experienced very light damage from the earthquake. Near the mill only one house collapsed. Fortunately, and only by chance, no one was inside it at the time of the earthquake. However, 30 sheep and several other animals were killed in the collapse.

Yesterday we spent the day with over a hundred people from villages of Tamzrit and Agouti pulling animals from the wreckage and clearing the rubble. Every time a sheep was identified the machines and people would stop digging. And even though the sheep were not his, Abdelqader a local and respected shepherd (in the video above), would step into the rubble alone and personally dig out the sheep and carry it away. Then the clearing would resume once more.

While we were spared many others were not and they need our help. If you want to help, we believe the single best thing you can do is donate to to @amalnonprofit . They will ensure that all your money gets to people on the ground that need it. We trust them fully.

While we are incredibly saddened by the events of the past 48 hours, we can take solace in the fact that many more stories of community, family, love, and heroism will emerge in the coming days, weeks, and months because these are the deeply ingrained traits that define Morocco and Moroccans. In the meantime, please help and support @amalnonprofit if you can.
