Kotor celebrates Sveti Tripun (Saint Tryphon) today. The Patron Saint of Kotor is remembered for his abilities to cast out evil and to heal; first recognized for healing a horse.

Watching the relics of Saint Tryphon go by in the procession, and arriving at Danijela’s Cat Shop just as the flag of Saint Francis (Patron Saint of Animals) was passing by were very special.

May the Saints shower the cats with love and protection.

In early January (2025), we brought Trio and two other cats from the “Kotor Cat Park” to the apartment because Danijela said they needed extra care. It was extremely cold and rainy, and Trio had respiratory issues and bad diarrhea. He got better and started playing. About 10 days in, he was neutered and vaccinated.

Trio improved but he seemed a little depressed. He had two semi-solid offers for adoption here in Kotor, but we didn’t pursue them because we wanted to make sure he didn’t have any chronic illness. We didn’t want to put his new family under stress or in any kind of dilemma. More importantly, we didn’t want him to get dumped again if he got sick, and dumped somewhere where Danijela and Branka won’t see him, and think everything is fine.

Trio is in Kitty Heaven and no longer suffering. We brought him high up the mountain away from this cruel world. We gave him a bright yellow flower and a can of Fancy Feast Tuna Pate.

Trio loved chicken so I brought a container of roasted chicken for his friends at the “Cat Park” when I went there to release the boy we neutered yesterday. All the kitties got to eat some and we made sure the blind black kitty got some too.

With every cat hovering over the container, I got another chance to confirm that every one of them has an ear tip - a marking of having been neutered. It was a bittersweet afternoon. What a relief; even though we know a new cat will soon appear, and with kitten season approaching, many will be dumped there.

Without the extreme pain and lethargy due to FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), I think Trio got to enjoy waking up to this view of the Kotor Bay this morning. Rest in Peace, Trio. You didn’t deserve to die like this, and you definitely didn’t deserve to be born into this cruel situation.

Danijela, Branka, K and I thank everyone who served as Trio’s pillow or gave him treats and scratches.

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. Please, always support neutering programs for strays so that innocent cats (and dogs) don’t have to suffer like Trio did. Adopt, don’t shop.

Kotor’s handsome, friendly and gentle boy, Trio, is ready for a good home. Trio is about 6 months old. So, some of you might have met Trio when you visited Danijela’s cat colony this past summer.

He is neutered, vaccinated, treated for internal and external parasites, and uses the litter box. He is happy by himself and plays well with other cats. He will be a great companion for anyone. We will deliver him anywhere in Montenegro. Sincere offers of overseas adoption will be considered. Additional photos in comments.

It’s Orthodox Christmas today. Danijela and her kitties wish everyone a peaceful year filled with love and happiness. Please be kind to each other and always sterilize your cats and dogs. Sretan Božić!
