Happy Mother’s Day from Kotor! - Danijela & Patak

Danijela has never asked me to write anything, but she would like me to write something for Petar because he deserves it.

Like many cats in Kotor Old Town, Petar was abandoned along with his siblings. One sister stayed outside the town walls, and the other sister started visiting Danijela’s shop with Petar. After a while, that sister found a different spot, but Petar kept coming.

Every day, Petar and his friends would wait for Danijela to open her shop so that they could have breakfast. He worked for a while, napped for a while, disappeared for a while, and then it was lunch time. No wonder she calls him “one of the stars of my shop”. Petar is truly special; a gentle soul, and a loyal friend.

If you have been to Danijela’s souvenir shop in Kotor while Petar was working, you probably patted him because he’s irresistibly handsome and sweet. When we took him to Dr. Relja of Vet Port for neutering, he cried the entire five minutes in the car. But, it sounded like he was saying “Hi” over and over again, so we called this squishy boy Hi Hi Petar. You’ll hear how sweet his voice is in the YouTube video (link below).

This Monday, Danijela brought him to Vet Port because he had a dental infection. On Tuesday, he did not come to the shop. When he showed up on Wednesday, he was completely wet from the storm and was visibly sick. Branka helped bring him to Vet Port for an infusion, among other things. He spent Wednesday night at Danijela’s apartment. As she fed him water and food by hand that night, she knew. Still, Branka brought him for therapy on Thursday. Petar passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Good Friday (March 29th, 2024).

I know Danijela’s heart is broken into a million pieces, and that she is shocked that Petar was gone so quickly and rather suddenly.

“Angel on Earth. Now in Heaven”, she said. Three Christmases together are not enough.

Danijela wants to thank everyone who said “Hi!” to Petar, or donated food, medicine or money to help care for Petar and his friends.

Rest in Peace, Petar. You are loved. You are missed. - C
