Happy Shelter is a non-profit dog rescue organization based in Skopje, North Macedonia, dedicated to saving stray dogs and finding them loving homes in the UK, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria. Application
- If there is a particular dog from our shelter you are interested in adopting, the first step is to fill the Adoption application form and submit an application:

- If you are interested in adopting a dog from our shelter, but don’t have a specific dog in mind, we would be happy to assist you and help you find the dog that would be the perfect fit for you by providing some suggestions. All you have to do is send us an e-mail or a message on our social media accounts.
2. Home check
- After submitting your application you will be contacted by our team in order to move to the next step and schedule a virtual home check. If you live in North Macedonia, the home check could be done in person.
- During the home check you will be asked questions, so that we can determine if you are the perfect fit for the dog you would like to adopt.
- After the home check is completed, we will contact you as soon as possible and inform you about our decision.
- If our team determines that you are not a match for the dog you applied for, we would be happy to suggest another dog that we feel would fit in better with your circumstances
- If we determine that you are the perfect match for the dog, we can now move to the next stage-adoption and fees.
3. Adoption and fees
- The next step is for us to send you an adoption agreement via email, which you must read and sign before returning to us.
- At this stage, we also require an adoption donation of 180€. Details of how to make the payment will be sent to you in the email. The adoption donation covers the costs of deworming, tick/flea control, vaccinations (rabies and basic immunization), micro chipping and pet passport. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered if they are old enough. Dogs are additionally tested by means of a rapid 4D-Test (Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma) and a brucellosis test. The adoption donation also contributes to the daily operations of our shelter, including care of our dogs who have not yet been adopted.
- If you are living in north Macedonia, this is the last step of the adoption process after which the only thing left to do is arrange a time and date when you can officially take the dog from our shelter. If you are unable to take the dog yourself, we can make arrangements and bring the dog directly to your home ourselves.
4. Transport
- The next and final step is planning the transport.
- We work with an entrusted professional pet transporting company, licensed by the relevant authorities. Travel will be by road, in a climatized van, and the dog will be delivered to your doorstep. Transportation may take place once a month, depending on the number of dogs ready to travel.
- Transportation costs vary depending on the destination and number of animals per transport but you can expect to pay up to 500 Euros. The exact costs will be confirmed when the transport is organized.
- We may ask you to make payment directly to the transportation company, or we may take the payment and forward it on to them.
- Transport duration varies depending on the location of the adopter, but is usually between 3-5 days. Dogs may arrive any time, day or night. If after reading this you have any additional questions or need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’re here to answer all your questions or guide you through the whole process.
