Dear dog lovers
Dog owners across Malta are being warned about the rise of cases of a deadly dog disease, canine parvovirosis.
The canine Parvovirus is a very contagious virus that can spread from dog to dog by faecal contamination and it can affect the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms might include: bloody diarrhoea, vomit, anorexia and lethargy. The virus is very resistant in the environment and it can survive up till one year and due to its high contagiousness and virulence can have a high mortality rate if not treated.

Good morning everyone.

Today I would like to share Thiago' s story, the gentle giant 😊:
Thiago is a 6 months old Cane Corso from Italy presented with a lower lip growth.

The aspect and the anamnesis let think about a possible papilloma, possible due to Papillomavirus, a virus which can affect dogs, transmissible, and cause of benign growths.

The treatment in this case was the surgical removal of the growth.

*In case of Papillomavirus the removed growth can be sent abroad and used for the production of a self-vaccine, used to inoculate the dog to prevent further growths from Papillomavirus.

Leishmania (known as "Sand fly") can occasionally have a human stage other then a dog stage. Dogs can play the role of reservoir of the disease. Both, dogs and humans, can be infected from a bite of a little insect, smaller then a mosquito (called Sand fly), previously infected from a blood meal. Protect your dog and you protect yourself!!
