We finally get to our number 12 on the list of Dangers of Christmas - Parties.

Anxious pets do not do well with gatherings, new people in their environment, noise and changes to their routine. This may cause them unnecessary behavioural changes such as anorexia, vomiting, diarrhoea and other signs associated with anxiety. Giving them a safe space to hide or retire to when hosting guests would be a great idea to balance their well-being with our Christmas cheer :)

These small measures help make Christmas the best time of the year for us and our pets. Make time for your pets and enjoy the love they give us! This is the best gift they can give and receive!

We continue counting down the list of the 12 dangers of Christmas - this time it's the yummy stuff that we need to avoid:

5. Bones - cooked or raw, bones can be a cause of gastric upsets, diarrhoea or constipation. Best if these are avoided

6. Poinsettias - these plants are a season favourite but they cause gastric upsets

7. Sultanas, raisins and currants - these small delights can lead to total kidney failure. They are a popular choice for mince pie stuffings and should be avoided at all costs

8. Nuts - some nuts might cause vomiting, gastric upsets and weakness

9. Festive foods - the extra piece of chicken, some sauce left over from yesterday's meal....all of these can cause painful and serious signs of pancreatitis. Make sure your pets stick to their pet food and not indulge in our habits of stuffing during the christmas period

10. Chocolate - this christmas favourite is definately a no-go for our pets!

11. Alcohol - same as number 10!

Christmas is a time of joy - however it may also be a time of risk for your beloved pets. We shall be counting down the list of the 12 dangers of Christmas over the coming days - things you definitely need to avoid in order to make sure our pets are kept safe and healthy during this time.

1. Christmas decorations - make sure any small items which are easily chewed or swallowed are out of reach from their curious paws.

2. Christmas lights - a particular risk for our teething pets and pets that like to nibble. Make sure the wires are safe and out of reach to avoid risk of electrocution

3. Toy parts - especially when buying toys for our pets, it is important to make sure the toys are adequate for the size and type of pet to avoid accidental ingestion

4. String - often used to hang up decorations, it may prove too tempting for the curious kitten but ingested string might require surgical intervention to remove.

Yearly vaccinations are an important part in keeping your furry friends healthy and happy. It's important to remember that it takes time for an animal to develop immunity after receiving a vaccine. Take preventative measures and ensure keeping your loving pets safe and sound.
