Didi is a certified pet sitter and cat behaviourist (ICVAS UK) and has been offering cat boarding services since 2016. Cats are not kept in cages and are free to roam around in the home, just like they would in the comfort of their own home. They will be in the company of three friendly cats as well as any other guests. This is very beneficial to cats, especially ones that are the only pet in the

house, as it helps them interact with their own kind and improve their social skills. They will also have practically 24/7 human interaction, so they can never feel alone or abandoned. Of course every cat is unique and we have come across cats that do not like to interact with other cats, or humans. In that case the cat can choose to stay in a room which is equipped with a large cat tree and plenty of hideouts for privacy :)

Cats would need to be fully vaccinated, neutered and have been given flea / worming treatment. Being a certified cat behaviourist and having met with various cat breeds along the years, Didi has a very good understanding of cat behaviour and characteristics and has given valuable advice on territorial issues, anxiety, fear amongst other issues. Most feline behavioural problems are caused by misunderstandings between humans and cats and both can live in harmony if we learn to understand cats. We do not offer boarding for dogs however we offer dog walking and house sitting (for dogs and cats) in Naxxar and surrounding areas. Summer officially started yesterday and it looks like it's going to be a super hot one! 🥵🥵

Do you have a long haired cat? Should you shave a cat even if it's short haired?

Many cat owners think that shaving their cat will help to keep the cat cooler. But is it a good idea to shave a cat for heat purposes? Does it really help them?

Cat fur serves many purposes. Yes, it helps keep cats warm, but it also protects the skin from injuries, is used in communication (such as signs of aggression or fear) and helps keep their skin dry. When temperatures get very hot, contrary to many beliefs, cat fur actually helps keep cats cool as the layer of air trapped within the coat can act as a buffer against extreme environmental heat.

If your cat has an indoor-only lifestyle, shaving should not be necessary for heat reasons, even if they have long or dark fur. It is unlikely that your home will become so hot that they won’t be able to find a comfortable place to rest. Cats will avoid sunny windows and areas that have been heated up by direct sunlight if they become too warm. Indoor cats have the luxury of taking it easy in a cool corner for most of the day. They will be fine as long as they have access to enough fresh water should they need to drink more to stay hydrated.

Cats who go outside tend to be more active and can experience more extreme heat, but they need the protection provided by their fur even more than indoor cats. Shaving a cat who lives outdoors puts them at risk for sunburn or other skin injuries, and the cat could even become hypothermic should he become wet or if the temperatures drop. If you are convinced that your long-haired or dark-colored kitty will become overheated outdoors, it’s far safer to keep him inside than it is to shave him.

What about the matting and shedding of long-haired coats? If your cat is not into the habit of self -grooming, then routine grooming needs to be made in order to keep your cat’s coat fully functional. Brushing especially with shedding brushes such as a Ferminator will help remove shed hair and prevent uncomfortable mats from developing.

Just over a year ago Tux had turned up out of nowhere and joined the clan. He had built a bond with Blu and would play and sleep with him.

Since Blu passed away Tux is now running to my door at meal times accompanied by Fessuda of course, just like Blu and Ollie did before him. It's amazing how they take over roles when one passes away. It's like they would have discussed it between them and agreed to continue the trend ❤️

People that know me know that I am a crazy cat lady, befriending every cat that crosses my path!
