New publication:-👍One of the most frequently translocated species outside their native range in Europe are water frogs of the genus Pelophylax . Recently, water frogs belonging to the same genus have also been recorded on the island of Gozo in Malta. Wow ! This was truly a surprise.A truly unexpected national recognition award for my contribution to science of lagomorphy and to the public/academic education I provided through the years via the support of the Malta rabbit club.However the latter team of dedicated people should be the ones in praise for their never ending work. Thanks again and it is truly appreciated!

An uncommon patient ; a few weeks old captive bred ringed cygnet ie: young of a Mute Swan(Cygnus olor)requires more than just veterinary medical care. Since they are social birds they need caring/cuddling and companionship to heal during a treatment to return with it's siblings.We are just lucky to get such an opportunity to spend some time with these amazing animals.

I was pretty sure that the Maltese dog was a breed that had no connection to the island as the Maltese tiger and other associated yet non maltese true breeds , however through some research carried out by myself and the works of Ganado(2020) I'm assessing again the position of this breed in my landraces book. New publication :The marbled crayfish (Procambarus virginalis) represents a very recently evolved parthenogenetic freshwater crayfish species that has invaded diverse habitats in Europe (Maltese populations included)and in Madagascar. Our findings uncover evolutionary dynamics in the marbled crayfish genome over a very short evolutionary timescale and identify the rapid growth of marbled crayfish populations as an important factor for ecological monitoring. Sunshine Animal Sanctuary Malta

Good morning everyone ☀️

So as you know, Sergeant went to the vet yesterday morning to be neutered and chipped.

However, the operation was not easy to perform due to the fact Serge had been shot several times 😢

One of his testicles had been burst, and during the healing process, had attached itself to his sc***um. This was also the reason Serge was finding it difficult to walk properly, due to the pain he was experiencing in his hind right leg.

The photo shows some of the pellets which the vet extracted, which were embedded deep in Serge's skin. We can't imagine how uncomfortable this must have been for him.

Serge will be on medication for the next 6 days to help him through the healing process, so let's all wish this brave little boy a speedy recovery!
