Today's hero is Tiny, a 1.1kg, 10 week old chihuahua who was bitten by his mum and sustained fracture in his forearm. The only solution was a risky operation as Tiny is both very small and almost too young for surgery.

Luckily, our team is highly trained and well equipped for these cases, so we were able to reduce the fracture using a special titanium micro plate, purposefully made for tiny breeds.

Luckily, everything went well and Tiny was discharged to his anxious owner and back to his adventurous life.

We wish Tiny a speedy recovery. 🥰

🌟🐾 Drumroll please! 🥁🌟

We're thrilled to announce our Hero of the Week: Gigi and his incredible owner, Maria!

Gigi, a stray cat, faced a daunting injury on his forearm that extended up to his elbow. After initial treatment at another clinic fell short, Maria brought him to us for a chance at saving his leg.

Our team sprang into action, tackling Gigi's stubborn infection which hindered the healing process. We then performed surgery, removing dead tissue and applying a full-thickness skin graft from his abundant belly, a testament to Maria's attentive care and Gigi's robust health 😁.

Through the ups and downs of post-op care, Maria's unwavering support and patience shone bright. We're overjoyed to share that Gigi has been now been discharged with a successful graft, thanks to their perseverance and love.

And here's the cherry on top: Maria and her family have decided to officially welcome Gigi into their home! 🏡💖

Wishing this beautiful family all the happiness and adventures ahead. Cheers to Gigi's bright future! 🐾

Torn cruciate ligament? We got you covered!

At Pets Veterinary Clinic we treat cruciate ligament tears via the two gold standard techniques: Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) and Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) using top quality implants and equipment.

Our in-house surgeon, Dr Kevin Camilleri, is the only Maltese veterinary surgeon qualified in both techniques having undergone extensive training in Italy, Uk, Spain and Germany.

The advantage of having a local surgeon ensures we’re always around and ready to help for the rechecks, assessments and any complications.

This way we can offer highly skilled professional assistance most importantly peace of mind during the recovery period.

… more to come, watch this space!

… When we posted that our Orthopaedic patients are getting smaller, today we took it a step further.

Shrekky is a 3.5kg yorkie with a torn cruciate ligament and an extremely steep tibial plateau angle (38 degrees). A corrective osteotomy was required and we performed a Cora based cranial wedge osteotomy…ie we needed to cut a small wedge of bone from the tibia to bring the tibial plateau angle from 38 to 5.

Radiographs obtained after surgery confirmed a post operative tibial plateau angle of 6 degrees which is excellent considering that the target was 5 degrees and the patient was small.

Shrekky will now embark in a lengthy recovery of about two months until the bone heals.

A good to excellent return to function is expected.

Let’s all wish Shrekky the best of luck for his future.

Meet Nash!

Nash is a 8.5 year old British Shorthaired cat who had been suffering from urinary disease for the past months. He's been straining, and in certain cases passing blood in his urine.

We checked Nash thoroughly and discovered a small stone nested in his urinary bladder.

We therefore booked Nash for surgery and removed it from his urinary bladder this morning.

Nash will now make a complete recovery and will spend the best Christmas ever with his loving family 😃

Our Clinic

Pets Veterinary Clinic opened its doors back in February 2002 with a special focus on quality care for its patients. Since then, the clinic evolved into a veterinary centre, or as we call it, a one stop shop clinic, offering all the basic services and also high end surgery, and diagnostic services thanks to the strong investment in training and equipment. We are a growing practice focused on improving upon our existing services to meet the challenges of the ever growing veterinary market in Malta.
