Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome the abandoned and injured street animals of Playa del Carmen. We combine immediate care for strays with a long-term SOLUTION: massive free Spay/Neuter Campaigns in communities of extreme poverty. Since February 2022, our rescue has held 25 Spay/Neuter Campaigns, each with the aim of performing 400 surgeries in 3 days! Each campaign has exceeded that goal, resulting in over 10,000 spayed/neutered animals!!!!!! Our organization does not receive any government funding and relies solely on donations to support its life-saving mission. Please welcome MASHA and her 3 puppies RUBY, RAMBO and BULLIT. This poor girl appeared with her 3 puppies in a construction shop. Alone. No collar. Owners of construction have 3 Rottweiler and our Masha wasn’t accepting them, probably to protect her babies. So we accepted them. Tara recovered

Do you remember Tara? The street dog that never had an owner and was being fed by neighbors, and was hit by a car on Friday, June 16th and brought to our shelter. Thank to your donations, she was able to have an operation to fix the fracture of her back leg and surgically clean her wounds. Her recovery was difficult though and she had to stay in the ICU for 5 days.We didn’t receive the full amount for Tara medical bills, so we are in debt at Hospipet where Dr Lalo takes care of our orthopedic and urgent cases. With the recent surgery and hospitalization of Yoko, we are in debt. Tara has recovered beautifully and Yoko survived the critical moment of her recovery, so we are happy to have saved their lives but now owe money. We have been so short staffed that we’ve been unable to share regular updates. We are trying our best, but it’s been very difficult to run the shelter with over 200 animals to take care of on low resources. Last week, on the way to the shelter, Sylvie saw a female dog in heat being attacked by 5 male dogs. She stopped her car immediately to stop the situation, which would have resulted in that dog being mounted by multiple dogs and more puppies being born on the street. While helping the female dog Sylvie noticed a male dog lying on the street, unable to move, clearly in pain. So she scooped both dogs off the street and brought them to the shelter. They are both in the quarantine area. We truly don’t have the resources to help more dogs, but what was the alternative? Sylvie had to stop to help these dogs and break the cycle of animal suffering. Welcome, Daisy and Donald, no more suffering and hunger! Will you help? We are happy to share the exciting news that SOS Animal Welfare team visited us last weekend and successfully transferred our 5 rescues!✈️ It was a long, stressful journey due to the fact that AeroMexico airlines suspended flying dogs to the U.S. until August 1st. We had amazing adopters and fosters waiting for these dogs, so we couldn’t lose this opportunity! The only solution was to reroute our original flight to New York and fly to Montreal instead! Then we could bring the dogs to the U.S. over land. We quickly had to modify all the required documents to be able to do that and our wonderful friend Vicky from All Paws Matter, met us in Montreal to help with the dogs, and took one, Darren, to his foster family. SOS Animal Welfare team continued their journey to New York to bring our babies to their families. Alana’s adopters drove from Chicago (14 hours!). Magda’s fell in love at first sight in Alabama. Monika and Karolina offered to foster as soon as they found out that Venus and Buju needed help. Iman was found on a side of a road in Mexico. She was found when she crossed paths with a man on his way to the Cancun airport to catch his flight back home. He could not leave her on that road, so he immediately stopped the car and picked her up. He googled an animal shelter and brought her to our shelter before heading back to the airport. This beautiful girl got her freedom flight to New York where she was welcomed by Karolina and Jarek’s foster family. The charming and loveable Iman quickly conquered the hearts of her fosters, and Karolina called after 4 days to ask for an adoption contract! 🏠👏 Karolina not only opened her heart and home to Iman (without any plans of adding a dog to her family), but she also offered to help SOS Animal Rescue with anything they needed. Karolina picked up our dogs that arrived at 1am at JFK and drove all the rescue dogs to their foster homes so the night ended at 3am! We are so excited to share the news that 488 animals were spayed/neutered during the 24th Spay/Neuter Campaign this past weekend! It’s a record! We are so grateful for your generosity and continued support ❤️🙏 We were amazed to see how many pet owners came to the campaign despite the rain! We thought we’d have to turn some away, but Lisa from Lost Dog Foundation generously offered to pay for an additional 138 surgeries!!!! Therefore we established the record of 488 animals operated on in our 3-day campaign!!!! This brings us to a total of 9,856 spayed/neutered animals in 24 campaigns! Recent times have been difficult for us for so many reasons. In moments like this, we remember all of the dogs we have helped in the past and think of all of the dogs who are still at our shelter. One of them is Bianca. She was found lying on the street, unable to move after being beaten so badly that her back legs were paralyzed. The beating to her back caused swelling that put pressure ther spinal cord resulted in intermittent paralysis. X-rays didn’t show any fractures, which confirmed the diagnosis. Bianca got anti-inflammatory medications, steroids, and pain medications that helped the swelling to go down so she started to walk! She is doing well now! Despite her trauma and harsh life on street, she is sweet and loving. She is very shy and reserved towards humans (no surprise there!), but she warms up quickly to volunteers who give her attention and kindness. Yes, there are good people, Bianca! Bianca’s story shows us that after difficult times, things can be good again. We now want to find a loving home for Bianca and show her that love and happiness do exist! Tara is a street dog, which means she has no owner, and lives in a neighborhood where residents feeding her daily. She was hit by a car on Friday June 16th, so concerned neighbor brought her to our shelter. Tara couldn’t move and her left back leg must have been pain fractures because she was crying loud. Here poor little body must’ve been dragged on a ground because her back is severely wounded, skin was peeled off. We are in a very difficult financial situation and we don’t have money for emergencies. But what could we say? She was crying out of pain so we took her to Dr. Lalo at Hospipet. We have an outstanding vet bill, but Dr. Lalo took Tara in despite the fact that we are in debt. Dr. Lalo operated on her to fix the fracture of her back leg and surgically cleaned her wounds. Her prognosis still wasn’t good so she had to be hospitalized for the last 5 days. She will continue her recovery with us at the shelter. We are sinking in medical debt and facing major uncertainty of our shelter. Can we survive? 🆘 We truly need your support.
