We have an on-site clinic which offers lower cost veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services. is the oldest no-kill shelter for cats and dogs in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We have been providing food, shelter, and care for unwanted and abandoned animals since 1980. We house an average of 100 animals. Our goal has always been to find permanent, loving homes for our cats and dogs. S

Ace is a very friendly, energetic dog. He's also very strong. The hardest part of taking him for a walk is getting the leash on him. He came to the S.P.A. on July 26, 2024 when he was about 1-1/2 years old. A medium/large-sized boy, he has a very pretty face and expressive ears (and eyes too).

Excellent Veterinary Care at the S.P.A. Clinic!

Please bring your beloved pets to the S.P.A. clinic for all their veterinary care. We have a terrific, well-equipped clinic with a wonderful vet, Dr. Omar Córdova. The S.P.A. can provide routine care for your pet (general check-up and vaccinations) and meet all your pet’s needs, including diagnosing and treating medical issues, taking x-rays, doing lab work, performing sterilizations and other surgeries, and providing emergency care.

To avoid having a long wait, it is best to call for an appointment (415-152-6124). The clinic is open from 9-3, Monday-Saturday and stays open until 4 on Tuesdays and Saturdays which are our discount days! The prices for a consultation with our veterinarian and most vaccinations are reduced on those days.

Lo**ta is wonderful! She came to the S.P.A. on April 13, 2021 when she was about 1-1/2 years old. Medium-sized, slender, and elegant, she is a lovely dog, friendly, and smart. She stares deeply in your eyes when you talk to her, one-on-one, and might give you a kiss on the nose if you're close enough. Sometimes, she just stretches out and listens. She’s selective about her dog friends, especially those on the street. She really likes going for a walk and is easy to walk on leash.

Beatrice arrived at the S.P.A. on June 10, 2024 at five months old. She is an easy-going Siamese mix with adorable color points. She is affectionate, sweet, and loves to snuggle. There isn't a mean bone in her body. She needs a loving family who will shower her with attention and help her work through her shyness.

Nick came to the S.P.A. on July 13, 2023 when he was about 1 year old old. A medium-sized dog, he is friendly with other dogs and with people. He looks forward to going for a walk and does well on leash. He has beautiful blue eyes and a gentle personality.

Darling Gracie is a petite white angora with black highlights. She arrived at the S.P.A at 4 months old in mid-November 2024 with her sisters Gaby and Gypsy. She is timid at first but will steal your heart with her sweet and affectionate demeanor. She will be a loyal and loving companion to a quiet household.

Zack is the best dog! He is a lab mix, playful, and just adorable! Tail wagging all the time which causes his body to wag also. He came to the S.P.A. on March 8, 2024 when he was about 1-3/4 years old. Medium-sized, he is very excited to receive attention and looks forward to getting some exercise. He is a very sweet, happy dog, friendly to people and other dogs.

Gypsy is a gorgeous angora beauty. She arrived at the S.P.A at 4 months old in mid-November 2024 with her sisters Gaby and Gracie. She is a white angora with cream colored highlights. She is curious, fun and loves to snuggle. She is the most confident of her litter and will thrive in a loving home.

PUMPKIN came to the S.P.A. on October 15, 2024 when she was about 2 years old. She is a small dog with a delightful personality. She loves people, enjoys attention, eagerly goes for a walk, does well with other dogs, and melts into being cuddles. She’s a very happy little girl. WE’RE SO HAPPY PUMPKIN WAS ADOPTED IN NOVEMBER 2024!

Matching Donation Offer to Benefit S.P.A. Cats and Dogs!

Now is your chance to join us in saving cats and dogs!
If you find an abandoned dog or cat in San Miguel de Allende, you can count on the Sociedad Protectora de Animales (S.P.A.) for assistance and advice. The S.P.A. is the oldest no-kill shelter in San Miguel. Everyone knows that for more than 44 years, we have been committed to maintaining a refuge for animals who can’t ask for help themselves. Our volunteers help socialize them and prepare them for a life away from the S.P.A. in a home. Thanks to donations from our supporters, our well-respected non-profit organization shelters and finds homes for many of our resident cats and dogs each year. Our on-site clinic and skilled and caring veterinarian provide veterinary services to the public and lower-income families as well as our resident animals. None of this could happen without the financial help we receive from donations.

Snoopy came to the S.P.A. on July 5, 2024 when he was about 9 months old. He is small/medium-sized, but still growing. He’s active, exuberant, and friendly. He is eager to go for a walk and does pretty well on leash. Rescued by the S.P.A. from Canine Control, Snoopy is safe with us as he waits for his forever home.
