Please pray for Toby, a senior dog in Puerto Angel who was attacked by two pitbulls four days ago. Toby would probably be getting better now if his owner just took him to the vet when the incident occurred. But many people are worried about expensive vet bills and try to treat their dogs at home using ineffective home remedies.
After three days, Toby's owner called me for help once he realized his dog was being eaten alive by maggots. So last night after work, I spent three hours cleaning Toby's wounds, treating him with antibiotics, and removing what I thought were all the maggots.
I was hoping to see an improvement today, but when I arrived at the house, I could hear Toby moaning in pain. And once again his wounds were full of maggots. I spent two hours of my lunch break attending to Toby's wounds. And I will do the same tonight, tomorrow, and until I can see that Toby no longer needs my help.
Thank you to vet Christian who guided me through the entire process to help Toby from home last night when no other vets were available.
As you know, I do this volunteer work for free to help the community and their animals. But I rely on donations to either pay our vets or pay for vital medications that we can't live without. On Toby, I've used and have almost run out of the following medical supplies which I need to replace to continue to help him and other dogs in our community:
Vial of Shotapen (injectable antibiotic): 1000 pesos (50 USD)
Microdacyn 1 liter anti-septic: 544 pesos (25 USD)
Aluspray (anti-insect wound spray): 380 pesos (20 USD)
Cefalmed 30 (antibiotic pills): 200 pesos (10 USD)
Meloxicam (anti-inflammatories): 100 pesos (5 USD)
Please consider donating towards these life-saving medical supplies. I'll keep you all posted on Toby's progress. I'm praying for a miracle.

This is a heartbreaking week for the Dogs of Puerto Angel. First Güera, the young dog with a severe problem in her anus, died the day before I was able to take her to a specialist in Puerto Escondido. And then yesterday, this dog in San Pedro Pochutla died before I could get to him. 💔
This dog also had an owner! This is what the majority of dogs with owners look like here on the Oaxaca Coast. And it's completely unacceptable. 😡
Thanks to the kind neighbor who took this video, the dog at least received some water, food, and a comfortable place to rest before he died.
But we need to hold cruel owners accountable for mistreating and abandoning their pets.
¡Basta ya el maltrato animal! ¡No más abandono de mascotas en la zona! 📢📢📢📢📢📢
❤️Update: thank you to Sandy and Allan, Jennifer, and Anja, we have covered the cost of Mancha's TVT treatment as well as the cost of the tranquilizer the vet uses during the treatment.❤️
I'm so grateful for these donations which will save Mancha's life. And I'm excited to see Mancha's healing journey in the next few weeks. I'll be sharing her progress with you all.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Please help us save Manchas and cure her TVT. Her owner doesn't have the resources to pay for her treatment, but when I recommended euthanasia (it's a deadly, highly contagious disease), the owner started crying. We will need at least two vials of Vincristina chemotherapy which will cost 2000 pesos (100 USD).
After just a few weeks of treatment, this tumor will completely disappear and Manchas will be able to live a long and healthy life. Please consider donating so that we can buy the medicine this week and start her treatment.
Thank you so much for your support for beautiful Manchas. Her owner rescued her when she was abandoned by her previous owner.

💔 Update: Little Güera died today before we could get her to the vet in Puerto Escondido. At least she is no longer in pain. But I so wish I was able to find her the help she needed sooner. Thank you to everyone who offered to help pay a driver to get her to the vet.
I'd like to mention that Güera's owner is a nice person who cared about her. But on this part of the Oaxaca coast, many people don't have the resources to do more for their pets.
Rest in peace Little Güera. You're free now. 🙏🏽

📢Volunteer needed to transport Güera from Puerto Angel to vet in Puerto Escondido.
This is Güera. She's a young dog in Puerto Angel who's got a severe problem in and around her anus. We've taken her to the local vet, but she isn't getting better. Güera needs to go urgently to Puerto Escondido for an x-ray and/or ultrasound to help us figure out what the problem is and if we can save her.
Dogs of Puerto Angel will find the funds to pay the vet bill. We just need someone willing to drive Güera to the vet in Puerto Escondido who has the equipment we need to help her.
Please let me know if you can help. More info 5511305102
It's only together that we can reduce the suffering of animals on the Oaxaca coast.

Why do I only post about 10-20% of the volunteer work I do with the animals on social media?
Other than a lack of time due to my work commitments, I also limit my posts because:
1. I don't want to offend pet owners in my small town. There are a lot of irresponsible pet owners as we know. 🙈 And posting about their animals needing help can easily offend them and prevent me from being able to help their pets in future.
2. I follow up on many animal mistreatment cases in my lunch breaks and weekends. These are highly sensitive, potentially legal cases, and I don't want to undermine the legal process or give away too much case-sensitive information on social media.
Just today during my short lunch break, I did two house visits to follow up on animal mistreatment cases, and I medically treated two sick dogs.
Although I'm not a vet, I can't ignore sick or wounded animals whose owners can't or won't take them to the vet. The owner of this dog says he's had severely swollen testicles for several days, but he hasn't taken him to the vet. 😞 So today I'm treating him with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories which should help.
I often spend my own money as a volunteer to help the animals here. I love doing it, so I don't complain. But financially it takes its toll on me because of the sheer quantity of animals I try to help each day.
So if you'd like to donate towards a really amazing not-for-profit cause that helps the community and their pets for free, please consider donating to Dogs of Puerto Angel.
We are very grateful for any support we receive so that we can continue helping the most vulnerable animals in our community.
Thank you so much. 🐾❤️🙏🏽

Thank you to everyone who donated to our security cameras in Jane's honor. We've just reached our goal which will allow us to get them installed this week.
I don't want to advertise the specs online (for our protection), but rest assured it's the best security camera system for our needs (and there are no other hidden monthly costs). I'll post as soon as the cameras are up and running.
I'm sorry that I'm not thanking you all individually. I just don't have the capacity this week. I'm broken after the loss of Jane and Pirate. It feels like someone punched me really hard in the stomach and I can barely breathe.
This scene of Jane discovering toys for the first time in her life plays over and over in my head. She was finally safe, happy, healthy, and living her best life with us in Casa Claudia after I rescued her. And someone ripped that away by poisoning her so cruelly.
Going home from work every day causes me physical pain knowing I will no longer see my little Jane wagging her tail and smiling ear to ear. It's going to take a long time to overcome this heart break.
Thank you again for donating to help us protect our home with cameras; may no other beautiful Cats or Dogs of Puerto Angel become a victim of poisoning in my home.

🩷Jane🩷 Life will never be the same without you. I hope that when I die one day, the afterlife will be just like this. Neverending cuddles and tail wags with my favorite little squirrel.
❤️ Update on Livi, the dog I rescued whose body was full of TVT tumors. ❤️
It's been just over one week since Livi's last Doxorrobicina chemotherapy treatment. She wasn't feeling well for the first few days after treatment, but now she's bounced back and is full of energy and appetite.
I'm not happy about the stubborn tumor on her neck that isn't closing up. But this process requires time and patience.
I'm so glad that Livi's other tumors have almost disappeared and are no longer bothering her. This has improved her quality of life substantially.
The vets aren't sure exactly what will happen long-term because they haven't treated a case this severe before. But I can say that I don't regret doing everything I can to help Livi because for the first time in her life she is being loved and cared for, and she is loving it.
Thank you to everyone for your love, support, and positive vibes for beautiful Livi. 🐾❤️🙏🏽
