I've been quiet on social media for a few days which is unusual for me, so I'm making a quick update.
I've been fighting a severe ear infection which I've never had before. It has meant little sleep and lots of pain and discomfort. 😞
I also have my hands full at Casa Claudia with my beautiful pack. My hands feel exta full with little Pikachu destroying things as all puppies love to do. 🤣
My local vet is on vacation until Monday, so I'll only be continuing with our spay and neuters from next week. ✂️
We have a massive sterilization campaign coming up on 9 March. I was supposed to fundraise for it, but I'm exhausted. 🙈
If anyone would like to sponsor one sterilization surgery on 9 March in San Pedro Pochutla, our vets from Oaxaca City charge us 350 pesos (18 USD) per surgery. They are some of the cheapest and most experienced vets in Mexico, which is why they come to the coast to help us. 🙏🏽
We aim to sterilize at least 100 dogs and cats on 9 March, but we are still 10,000 pesos (500 USD or 29 surgeries) short of reaching that goal. We remain positive that we can achieve this goal with your help! 💫
Thank you to everyone who supports this amazing non-profit cause that does everything possible to reduce the suffering and overpopulation of companion animals on the Oaxaca Coast of Mexico. 🙏🏽❤️🐾

Pinto is in adoption. He's 2 years old. Sterilized. Vaccinated. Deparasited. 100% healthy. His owner was shot and killed in Zipolite leaving him homeless. 💔 He's a good dog. He loves to run. And he needs a secure place to call his home. More information 5511305102 🙏🏽❤️🐾
🙏🏽Please help Pinto find a temporary or permanent home in or around Zipolite.🙏🏽
Pinto's owner was shot and killed in front of him in Zipolite. He was left tied up on the property for two days barking and crying.
A kind Samaritan took him to her home to give him a place to recuperate. He's now sterilized, vaccinated, and 100% healthy. He's young: only about 2 years old.
Pinto is a tall, strikingly good-looking dog. He's kind and loving. And he loves walks on the beach.
Unfortunately, no one can care for him any longer. He's at my house temporarily as we desperately try to find him a home. I have an aggressive alpha dog that bullies him, and Pinto is depressed here. My long working hours also don't allow me to take Pinto on healthy walks.
Our situation is not sustainable for Pinto. Please help Pinto find a home where he can be happy. More info 5511305102 🙏🏽❤️🐾
🐾❤️🙏🏽 Mazunte Dog Project Update 🐾❤️🙏🏽
On Sunday, 16 February, Dogs of Puerto Angel with the help of vet Leo Λεοντίνε Σχότελ and volunteers Sara Rank and Niki Nagorski, sterilized three Belgium Shepards in Mazunte.
I had received a call about one of the dogs who was giving birth to puppies every 6 months 🙈 This dog was a survivor of distemper so her weak body shouldn't have been put through the constant pressure of pregnancy and birth.
The owner, who didn't have the resources to sterilize their pets, was very grateful for our help. We also took three of the smallest remaining puppies with us into foster care until they are old enough to be sterilized and find forever homes.
We'd like to especially thank Michelle Lisoway for generously covering the cost of the three surgeries which came to 1800 pesos. Without donations like these, we wouldn't be able to pay our vets for this vital service in our community. We'd also like to thank Rocio Sanchez for her donation which we will use to sterilize the puppies.
Together, we're creating a safer and cleaner society for both animals and people along the Oaxaca coast. Thank you to everyone who supports this beautiful non-profit cause.

Despite the ongoing heartbreak of animal rescue on the Oaxaca Coast of Mexico, we hold on tightly to the victories. It’s the animals we save that give us the strength to keep pushing on.
Meet Chili (formerly Marimba). In October 2024, we found him abandoned and dying in Puerto Angel.
Three months later, he’s unrecognizable—a happy, healthy dog, full of life and love. And soon, he’ll be heading to his forever home in Canada!
Huge thanks to Jessie Laufeyson for fostering Chili initially. And an especially heartfelt thank you to Nick and Lori White for giving him the care and love that completely transformed his life. You’ve worked miracles!
We love you Chili, and we feel so privileged to play a part in your journey of recovery. ❤️
Please consider donating to Dogs of Puerto Angel so that we can help more animals like Chili. We rely solely on donations from kind individuals to continue this vital volunteer work in the area.
Thank you to everyone who supports this beautiful cause.

Thank you to the hitchhiker who stopped to help this dying dog on the roadside on his way to Pochutla. Thank you for not being indifferent. Thank you for calling me and for bringing him to our vet in Zipolite. Thank you for allowing him to feel love and attention before he crossed over the rainbow bridge. Thank you for not leaving him to die alone on the road. Thank you.
If only we could've saved him. 🙏🏽💔🐾
I love it when my friends say, "I pulled a Claudia today!" Meaning "I rescued a dog even though I technically don't have the time, money, or space for another dog".🤣 Well done Gaby and Joel Tudor; you two make me proud! 💯
We have a pregnant mama dog with a broken foot that Gaby picked up today just in time for our sterilization campaign tomorrow. Humane abortion for companion animals that would otherwise give birth on the street is the only responsible answer here in Mexico.
Gaby also picked up this little abandoned puppy in Zapotal near Mazunte. He's too skinny and sick to be sterilized tomorrow, so we will wait until he's stronger for his sterilization.
Together, we're transforming lives one rescue at a time. 🙏🏽❤️🐾
Tomorrow, we have a massive sterilization campaign in Puerto Angel, so today I'm running around getting everything ready for it.
Unfortunately, as a result, I couldn't go to San Pedro Pochutla personally to pick up this dog who was dying on the side of the road. As usual, hundreds of people walked by this dog and did nothing.
Except one person. One person phoned me asking for advice. He wanted to help this dog, but he didn't have the financial resources to do so.
I wasn't going to let money stand in the way of this dog receiving urgent medical care, so I agreed to pay his vet bill if the person could take him to the nearest vet.
Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do to save this dog. He was paralyzed, had a serious injury on his back, and showed signs of advanced distemper and erlikhiosis. At the vet's advice, we opted to end his suffering in the most humane way possible.
In this part of the Oaxaca Coast, vets don't cremate or bury dogs that pass away. The person who brings in the animal has to dispose of the body. This is something that causes me immense stress because I have to find someone somewhere who I can pay to bury the animals who don't make it.
Luckily, the kind Samaritan who took the dog into the vet for me also offered to bury him. I'm incredibly grateful for that.
Every time we have to euthanize a dog, it costs 500 pesos (25 USD). I always pay it without ever asking for donations to cover the euthanasia because it always feels too heavy to do so.
But I'm sharing this with you so that you're aware of what happens when we have to opt for euthanasia. It's not cheap or simple. But it doesn't matter; what matters is that we did everything we could to help end the suffering of a defenseless companion animal.
Rest easy Little One. I'm so sorry that human beings let you down. Be free now. 🌈
Today Dogs of Puerto Angel "paid it forward" donating one of our bag's of kibble to a needy family with seven hungry dogs.
Luckily, all the dogs are sterilized so they won't be reproducing. But they are all very skinny. 😞
We also donated Nexgard Spectra to all the dogs as we could see they are all battling different degrees of mange.
Unfortunately, with funds being so limited in our tiny non-profit, we can't afford to help these dogs with food every month.
If anyone would like to sponsor this family's dogs, please let us know. A big bag of kibble costs 500 pesos (25 USD), and we would gladly volunteer to drop off one bag a month for them. They will also need at least one more dose of Nexgard Spectra in 30 days. For seven dogs, that will cost 600 pesos (30 USD) in total.
Thank you for being part of this beautiful cause that aims to combat the overpopulation and suffering of dogs and cats on the Oaxaca Coast of Mexico.
