Estimados amigos y clientes, hoy nos hicieron saber que Volaris tiene nuevas disposiciones en cuanto a los perros (y gatos) de apoyo emocional. Lo más importante es que no pueden medir más de 25 cm a la cabeza (10 pulgadas) y pesar menos de 12 kg (incluyendo la transportadora, si la usa).

Los perros de servicio no tienen estas restricciones, pero deben contar con el entrenamiento apropiado para prestar su servicio a las personas que lo requieran.

I've seen multiple queries about the requirements to bring dogs and cats from Mexico into the United States. Here’s a short explanation on what they are:

There are 2 agencies involved in the process:

1. APHIS requires the certification that the animals are free of screwworm, this applies only to dogs, no cats, ferrets or other pets.

2. CDC: is concerned about the control of rabies in the US, CDC requires that all dogs (not cats) be microchipped and have a health certificate. It also requires the pet tutor to fill a form that can be found here: https://cdc-786687.workflowcloud.com/forms/090dc543-7b2f-4538-b2c7-2919d12ecc73

Cats do not need to be microchipped or tested for screwworms. But rabies vaccine is strongly advised.

Health certificates are not required by any governmental agencies, but airlines may require them as well as external and internal parasite treatments, you need to check with the airline.

Please note that these guidelines only apply to dogs and cats that had been in Mexico or any other low risk country (regarding rabies) for the last 6 months. ¿Qué son las isoxazolinas? ¿Son peligrosas? ¿Cuáles le puedo dar a mi perro o gato?
Las isoxazolinas son un grupo de medicamentos que se utilizan para tratar infestaciones de parásitos en perros y gatos y actúan interfiriendo con el sistema nervioso de los parásitos, lo que provoca su muerte.

Son eficaces contra pulgas, garrapatas y algunos tipos de ácaros, algunas de las isoxazolinas más comunes incluyen:
Afoxolaner (Simparica)
Fluralaner (Bravecto)
Sarolaner (Simparica Trio)
Lotilaner (Credelio)

¿Son seguras?
Las isoxazolinas se consideran seguras para mascotas que no tengan antecedentes de convulsiones. Se han reportado algunos efectos secundarios indeseables como temblores (tremores), pérdida del equilibrio y convulsiones. Sin embargo, la frecuencia de estos efectos secundarios es muy baja y no hay estudios concluyentes que indiquen que estos productos puedan producir daño neurológico.

¿Como protegen a mi mascota?
Las isoxazolinas ofrecen una serie de ventajas, como su eficacia contra múltiples parásitos, su fácil administración (tópica o oral) y su relativa seguridad en la mayoría de los perros y gatos. Además, no se ha reportado resistencia a las isoxazolinas en pulgas, ácaros y garrapatas que afectan a los animales, lo que las convierte en una excelente opción para el control de ectoparásitos

El uso de isoxazolinas proporciona una protección integral y efectiva para tus mascotas, ayudándolas a mantenerse sanas y cómodas al reducir la carga de parásitos. Siempre es recomendable consultar con un veterinario para elegir el producto más adecuado y asegurar su uso correcto

Some updated information on the screw worm. There has been 8 confirmed cases of screwworm in dogs so far. In the south of Mexico (Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatan). And also there was a report of an older woman that had the worms too.

The good news is that there are reports that - at least, 2 of the most common medications given to prevent fleas and ticks: Nexgard and Simparica, seem to have also an excelent effect against the screw worm. So, please, make sure that your dogs - and cats, are up to date on flea and tick preventive medication.
