Who Domesticated Whom? The Surprising Story of the Cat:

Did you know that dogs were domesticated by humans15,000 years ago? They helped us with hunting and became our working companions.

Cats domesticated themselves 10,000 years ago. They were drawn to the rodents in the first human agricultural settlements. It was a mutually beneficial partnership. The cats got easy food, and humans got natural pest control for their crops.

Cats adapted to life near us, developing meows to dictate their orders to us, while humans fell in love with their company and charm.

When we think of man's best friend, the dog is usually the first animal that comes to mind. And for good reason: the relationship between humans and canids is one of the oldest and deepest in the animal kingdom. It’s estimated that wolves first approached early hunter-gatherers around 30,000 years...

The cat acquires the parasite by eating raw meat from an infected animal, once in th...

I've seen multiple queries about the requirements to bring dogs and cats from Mexico into the United States. Here’s a short explanation on what they are:

There are 2 agencies involved in the process:

1. APHIS requires the certification that the animals are free of screwworm, this applies only to dogs, no cats, ferrets or other pets.

2. CDC: is concerned about the control of rabies in the US, CDC requires that all dogs (not cats) be microchipped and have a health certificate. It also requires the pet tutor to fill a form that can be found here: https://cdc-786687.workflowcloud.com/forms/090dc543-7b2f-4538-b2c7-2919d12ecc73

Cats do not need to be microchipped or tested for screwworms. But rabies vaccine is strongly advised.

Health certificates are not required by any governmental agencies, but airlines may require them as well as external and internal parasite treatments, you need to check with the airline.

Please note that these guidelines only apply to dogs and cats that had been in Mexico or any other low risk country (regarding rabies) for the last 6 months. The list of countries that are high risk countries can be checked here (if the country you are bringing the dog from is not in the list, it’s because it is considered a low risk country: https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/high-risk-countries.html
