WESTERN HORSEMAN APRIL 2007 We are honored to have been featured in the April 2007 issue of Western Horseman magazine. Many thanks to the editorial staff and in particular Guy de Galard, for the wonderful article and beautiful photos. Guy, you are always welcome, and we hope to have you back soon. AQHA RANCHING HERITAGE BREEDERS PROGRAM We are honored to be the first ranch in Mexico accepted into the AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders Program. For more information about the Ranching Heritage Breeders program, please visit http://www.aqha.com/Ranching/Ranching-Heritage/About-Ranching-Heritage.aspx) STALLIONS AT STUD We stand two stallions to complement our broodmare band and the genetics of our Reference Stallions currently listed in our Albums Section (http://goo.gl/UpwELQ). Our two stallions are DUINOS COSARY KID (https://rb.gy/xeu5bb) and SOPHISTICATED DUINO (https://rb.gy/uvnymc). Our ranches are located in the state of Sonora, Mexico, which borders the U.S. state of Arizona. We raise top quality registered Quarter Horses (AQHA) and Paints (APHA), champion registered Charbray cattle, registered Charolais cattle, fregistered Red Brangus cattle, and big game, including Desert Bighorn Sheep, Desert Mule Deer, and Desert Whitetail Deer (Coues Deer). We provide guided tours for photography, sightseeing, birdwatching, and big game hunting, as well as horses and cattle for sale and other services listed below. OUR HORSES We are firm believers in the great value of hybrid vigor to a planned a breeding program; we strive to breed for horses that are conformationally correct, athletic, sound and healthy, with good minds, plenty of size, athletic ability, and that are fun to ride, can get a full day's work done on the ranch, and are attractive to look at from the ground or saddle. Most of our breeding horses are broke and ride well, including our stallions. Our horse babies are born and raised outside in the late winter or spring, where they learn to cover country, make their way through hills, rocks, heavy brush, and across rivers, and develop the bone, minds, and muscle that will be required of them in order to be sound horses later in life. This same management also keeps our riding and breeding age horses healthy, sound, and happy. Though we handle our horses almost daily and they are friendly, people loving animals, we rarely keep horses inside. Most of our horses are listed on www.allbreedpedigree.com, facilitating deep pedigree and production record research. The stallions we originally used combined World Champion halter breeding with renowned performance bloodlines; our reference stallions sport the bloodlines of AQHA Hall of Fame stallions Jackie Bee and Mr. Conclusion, along with World Champion and Leading Sires Kid Clu, Coosa, Western Impress, plus AQHA Champion Freeway Foxy. We later added stallions Sophisticated Duino, sired by the great Skipping Duino (considered one of the jewels of AQHA Hall of Famer Hank Wiescamp's breeding program); and Heza Feature Mr Jess, a son of Feature Mr Jess, who prior to his early demise was perhaps the most promising young sire in quarter horse racing. Our initial broodmare band included groups of mares that were distinctively bred for halter, all-around (Wiescamp/Skipper W), or racing. We have added mares to the broodmare band that have resulted from crossing halter bred stallions to our all-around and racing bred broodmares, and have also added additional all-around and racing bred mares. Our halter mares are daughters and/or granddaughters of World Champions and/or World Champion Sires Mr. Conclusion, Impressive, Ima Cool Skip, Western Impress, Perpetration, and Reserve World Champion and World Champion Sire Coosa. The pedigrees of our Skipper bred mares include many great horses from the Hank Wiescamp program: Skipping Duino, Skip N Union, Skippo Wrack, Skips Stat, etc. Our race bred mares boast the blood lines of First Down Dash, Streakin Six, Easy Jet, Dash for Cash, and Go Man Go. Most of our broodmares also double as riding horses. HORSE SALES Many of our young horses are for sale, as are select geldings and broodmares. If you are interested in any of our horses in particular, please let us know, even if they are not specifically listed for sale. We usually have a horse or two for sale staged in Tucson, Arizona, and include the entire import procedure into the U.S., with shipping to Tucson on all sales to the U.S. OUR RANCHES Rancho La Chimenea is located Northeast of the city of Hermosillo; Hermosillo is the capital of the State of Sonora and located approximately 170 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border. The ranch straddles the Rio Sonora (Sonora River) and consists of approximately 450 acres of mixed habitat, including hills, plains, and of course the river habitat. The wildlife includes coues deer, coyote, cougar, and many varieties of smaller critters and birds. This ranch is the center of our horse breeding operation and home to approximately half of our broodmares. Our other ranches, Rancho San Isidro, Rancho La Tescalama, and Rancho El Cosari, are home to our big game and cattle operations; with many of the using horses as well as the balance of the broodmares. Many of our broodmares perform double duty as part of the remuda when they're not raising babies. Our game preserve at San Isidro boasts trophy Desert Bighorn rams and Desert Mule Deer bucks, and our cattle program (distributed across San Isidro, La Tescalama, and El Cosari) has produced the Charbray breed champion bulls at the annual Expogan Sonora state stock show since the late 1990s. We typically have sunny, mild days in the late fall, winter, and early spring, with daytime highs ranging from the mid-to-high 60s to the low 80s, and crisp mornings. Late spring, summer, and early fall are sunny and hot, with temperatures generally topping 100° F from early June through August.
