This extension of the hydrofarm houses some of the fruiting veges. So far I have only planted tomatoes, cucumber, honey melon and bitter gourd. Two methods of planting, one in traditional pots of soil and hydroponic-based bucket system with added aeration. So far the difference is remarkable with the larger growth seen on the bucket system compared to the soil based ones.

This is my mini flood&drain system which I have updated recently when I moved four fruiting vege pots to their bucket system. I find this kind of set up is suitable for lettuces or veges with lesser stalks. Shown here are mostly red-leaf lettuces. I plan to build a bigger flood&drain system that can fit more of these types of vege.

After completing the DFT system, I transferred the growing plants from the DWT system to this installation.

Sometime middle of September, I started buidling my first Deep Flow Technique (DFT) system. Made with 4inch UPVC pipes with holes for planting cups drilled 20cm apart. This installation has 108 holes.

Still on DWC technique. I decided to aerate the reservoirs with pumped air with air stone at one end. Adding aeration will boost root growth, hence further accelerate plant growth. I did a comparison with some control sample and the difference is significant.

Started building the main shed of the hydrofarm in August 2020. Initially I wanted to build one using metal, but I decided to use wood instead. For the roof I used UV Sheet bought for RM34/m at The Stone Shop. I only used 4 meters as the sheet opens up about 6 m in width, so I used the width for the lenght of the sheet . The I realized the grounds gets flooded when it rains, not conducive work area. Therefore I had to build a raised floor. Found out later that you need to build more support if you want to use cement board.

If it was not for the Movement Control Order, I would probably not have started this mini hydro farm. More than 20 years ago I started hydroponics just for fun, but I stopped due to lack of resources then. Now with all the resources available, I present to you the humble beginnings of Della HydroFarm. This page document from the beginning of the first installation of Deep Water Culture technique, which I'm more familiar with in early September 2020.
