🌿🦎 Understanding Hypovitaminosis E in Geckos 🦎🌿

Hey Gecko Enthusiasts!

Did you know that just like us, our reptile friends can suffer from vitamin deficiencies too? One such condition is Hypovitaminosis E, a deficiency of vitamin E that can lead to serious health issues in geckos.

Vitamin E deficiencies cause fat tissues to become necrotic, leading to inflammation in the muscle. The primary symptom we see is bilaterally enlarged masseter muscles (behind the ears), though we have also seen masses throughout the body. Treatment includes supplemental vitamin E, selenium, and possibly an anti-inflammatory for swelling or pain. The prognosis for advanced cases is grave, but mild and moderate cases can see the swelling regress or remain stable.

Regular Vet Check-ups: Keep up with routine vet visits to monitor your gecko’s health and nutritional status.

Let's give our geckos the best care possible! If you notice any symptoms or have concerns about your pet's diet, don't hesitate to reach out to a reptile-savvy vet. 🐾❤️
