Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease
Feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) describes a variety of conditions that affect the bladder and urethra of cats. Cats with FLUTD most often show signs of difficulty and pain when urinating, increased frequency of urination, and blood in the urine. Cats with FLUTD also tend to lick themselves excessively and may urinate outside the litter box, often on cool, smooth surfaces like a tile floor or a bathtub.
While FLUTD can occur at any age, it is usually seen in middle-aged, overweight cats that get little exercise, use an indoor litter box, have little or no outdoor access, or eat a dry diet.
Factors such as emotional or environmental stress, multi-cat household, and abrupt changes daily routine may also increase the risk that a cat will defelop FLUTD.
A 2-year-old male castrated domestic shorthair cat was presented to dr zawani animal clinic for suspect urethral obstruction. On presentation, he was documented to have a BCS of 2.5 on a 5-point scale, weighing 3 kg. A full, hard bladder was palpated, and white, gritty material was noted at the tip of his pen*s.
Based on the anamnesis and clinical findings a tentative diagnosis of LUTD was made.
Inserting a catheter is the main action that must be taken if there is an obstruction in the urethra.
Blood and serum samples were taken , In a patient with urethral obstruction, a biochemistry panel can detect azotemia, electrolyte abnormalities, and acid-base disturbances, which guide emergency management. In nonobstructed patients, a complete blood count and biochemistry profile can be helpful to assess for comorbid conditions (e.g.,pyelonephritis).

Feline Mandible Fracture
Feline mandibular fractures are commonly found in veterinary medicine, comprising approximately 16% of identified fractures in cats. The most common location for mandibular fractures is the mandibular symphysis, followed by the mandibular body, and then the condyle and coronoid process. The most common causes of mandibular fractures are traffic accidents, fights and falls from height.
A male cat came to Dr. Zawani's Veterinary Clinic for examination due to a traffic accident. The cat was not weak, but unable to eat or drink for a day. After physical examination, it was seen that the mandible was broken. We decided to repair the mandibular fracture. We placed an cerclage wire to fix the broken part, so that it could return to its original shape.
A month later, he came back for follow up and to remove the wire. And now the cat can eat normally and the recovery is successful ☺️.
