Many CFA judges report that they decided they wanted to judge the very first time they attended a cat show -- before they even understand how everything worked! Watching a judge handle, assess, and PLAY with the cats looked like so much fun that they wanted to participate immediately. Of course, it took many years of experience and training before that dream could become a reality, but it did come true for many members of our judging panel. So watch out! You could attend your first cat show and acquire a new ambition!

Cats at CFA cat shows are judged according to a written breed standard, which defines the ideal example of each breed. It's important to understand that the cats are not actually judged against each other! Instead, judges select the cats that best meet their interpretation of the written standard.
