😸Chloe is a 5-year-old spayed female cat that came in with the complain of frequent urination and sometimes straining to urinate. We immediately run some blood works, collect her urine to examine and ultrasound to see her bladder.
🤓As we suspect, Chloe has a bladder stone about 1cm in size. After taking 1 month of resolution diet, the stone remains and we decided that it is best to do surgery.
👨⚕️We perform cystotomy on the bladder, not only 1cm size stone was removed but some smaller fragments as well.
✅From this case we know that even females can have blocked urethra and all cases of urination problems need to have the bladder scanned to determine if there is a stone or some other underlying conditions.
👉Urolithiasis is a condition in cats that refers to the formation of stones, also known as urinary calculi, in the urinary tract. .
🤓The most common signs of urolithiasis in cats include:
👉straining to urinate
👉frequent urination
👉bloody urine
👉urinating outside of the litter box
👉some cats may also experience pain in the abdomen, loss of appetite, and lethargy.
👨⚕️Treatment for urolithiasis in cats typically involves a combination of medical management and surgery.
👉Prevention of urolithiasis in cats involves feeding a balanced and appropriate diet, providing plenty of fresh water, and monitoring for any signs of urinary tract problems.
✅Regular veterinary check-ups and monitoring of urine pH and composition may also be recommended for cats at risk for developing urolithiasis.

😸Mila, a beautiful domestic long hair cat was brought to the clinic by her frantic owner who said Mila had not been eating for days and was vomiting. We ran bloods that revealed her kidney parameters were up and there was also evidence of a pancreatitis.
✅Further diagnostics included ultrasound to rule out any foreign bodies or motility issues. Ultrasound revealed a severely dilated stomach and small intestines that wasn’t moving properly.
😲We found the region where the dilation ended and searched for a foreign body. After repeating the ultrasound 4 hours later, the stomach and small intestines remained unchanged.
🩺That’s when we knew a surgery was indicated before Mila’s condition deteriorated further.
As we expected there was a foreign body at the small intestines which the surgeon pulled out. It was completely blocking the intestinal passage. No wonder she couldn’t keep anything in or pass anything out! 😱The foreign body was plastic. Goodness knows why she ate the plastic.
😉But good news is that Mila made a full recovery after the surgery and went home happily, eating normally and pooping normally. What a relief!😇
