A broken pelvis in cats is a serious injury causing pain and difficulty with movement of the hindlimbs. Pelvic fractures in cats can be seen commonly with trauma, especially from impact with a vehicle or from a very high fall. Cats suffering from these events might have multiple injuries, requiring emergency care. Because they usually occur in combination with other serious injuries, quickly seeking veterinary care is extremely important. Please keep cats indoor to prevent all kind of trauma and accidents.

23/01/2024

Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia or IMHA is an immune system disease in which the body attacks and destroys its own red blood cells and caused anaemia.
In cats with AIHA, red blood cells are still being manufactured in the bone marrow, but once released into circulation, they have a shorter-than-normal life span.
IMHA may be primary (idiopathic) or it may be secondary.
With primary causes, cat's immune system is not working properly and it incorrectly makes antibodies that target and caused lysis on its own red blood cells. Primary IMHA is uncommon in cats.
With secondary IMHA, the surface of the red blood cells is altered by an underlying disease process or a toxin. The cat's immune system recognizes the altered red blood cells as “foreign" invaders that must be destroyed. Secondary AIHA may be triggered by various conditions:
• cancer
• viral infections, eg feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), or feline leukemia (FeLV)
• blood parasites such as Mycoplasma haemofelis
• drug reactions
• chemicals, toxins, or bee stings
• events that are stressful on the body (if underlying secondary causes are already present)
Once targeted, the red blood cells are either destroyed within the blood vessels by a process called intravascular hemolysis or destroyed when they circulate through the liver or spleen by a process called extravascular hemolysis and lead to anaemia then.

Mammary tumors are common, especially in unspayed female dogs, as hormones like estrogen and progesterone play a role in both mammary development and cancer formation.
Tumors that are large, have spread to other organs, are ulcerated (skin broken open), have a history of growing rapidly, or are attached to deeper tissues (i.e., the muscle layer) unfortunately carry a poor prognosis. Average survival times range from several months to several years.
The best preventative care for mammary gland tumors in dogs is to ensure your dog is spayed, especially at a young age.
For mammary gland tumors that are diagnosed and surgically removed, your vet will follow-up and check in on your dog’s recovery.
These tumors are generally removed with surgery. Other therapy eg chemotherapy and radiation can also be used, but typically mammary tumors need to be surgically removed.

A**l sac disease begins as an uncomfortable impaction and can progress to an infection or abscess called a**l sac infection. Your vet will open and drain the abscess and usually prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Daily warm compresses can help, too. Put your dog on a good quality diet with high fiber and make sure they get plenty of exercise and not overweight. Small, obese dogs are at the highest risk of a**l sac disease. Also, if you dog has problems with their a**l sacs, have your vet check them at regular basis.

Jaundice is a yellowing of the skin of cats that can be caused by a variety of medical conditions via building-up of waste products, bilirubin in the blood.

There are many diseases that can cause jaundice in cats. Those causes related to liver (intra-hepatic causes) caused by triaditis, or inflammation of the intestinal tract, pancreas, and liver.
Other causes are “extra-hepatic,” meaning they are caused by an obstruction of the ducts and outflow of bile from the liver. Some of these causes include:
• Excess destruction of red blood cells, often from diseases of the bloodstream such as cytauxzoonosis (from ticks).
• Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA), in which the body attacks its own red blood cells.
• Tumors.
• Buildup of excess fat in the liver.
• Any condition that interferes with the secretion of bilirubin.

Feeding Guide for Rabbits
• Hay – Body–sized amount of 100% grass hay per day.
• Vegetables – Head-sized amount or 1-2 cups per day.
• Pellets – Small handful or ¼ cup (50 ml) per day.
• Fruit – Maximum 2 tbsp per day, preferably less often.
Carrots shouldn't be a main source of food. Rabbits don't naturally eat root vegetables or fruit. Carrots and fruit are high in sugar and should only be fed in small amounts as occasional treats。 Rabbits do not need to eat grains, and rice could cause tummy ache, although it is not actively poisonous. A rabbit that has eaten rice may be bloated and uncomfortable.

Similarly, if your rabbit ever ingests one of the items listed below (regardless of quantity), call your veterinarian immediately.
• Avocados.
• Chocolate.
• Fruit seeds/pits.
• Raw onions, leeks, garlic.
• Meat, eggs, dairy.
• Broad beans and kidney beans.
• Rhubarb.
• Iceberg lettuce.

There are many potential causes of acquired alopecia or hairs losing in cats, and the problem may be the result of one or more of the following:
• Infection caused by bacteria (most commonly Staphylococcus), yeast (usually Malassezia), ringworm, or parasites (e.g., Demodex, Cheyletiella, Notoedres, or Otodectes mites).
• Allergies to fleas, food, or environmental allergens.
• Psychogenic alopecia, a behavioral issue in which the cat overgrooms due to compulsion and anxiety or stress.
• Recent metabolic stress, such as pregnancy, nursing, or fever.
• Discomfort caused by another disease, such as inflammation in the bladder, kidneys, gastrointestinal system, or a**l sacs.
• Endocrine disease like hyperthyroidism (common) or Cushing’s disease (rare in cats).
• Cancers, including cutaneous lymphoma, thymoma, pancreatic carcinoma, and bile duct carcinoma.
• An immune-mediated disease, like alopecia areata (extremely rare).
The problems need to find out and treat accordingly to solve the alopecia issues.

17/05/2023

Spaying a female dogs and cat, especially before the first heat, helps prevent uterine infections, uterine cancers, and breast cancer. Female dogs n cats with infectious diseases may pass these on to their offsprings too. Pregnancy and birth are also with certain risk. Castration in male dogs and tomcats eliminates the chances of testicular cancer and lowers the risk of prostate problems, then they will become less aggressive and stay at home most the time. Generally, neutered pets live healthier, longer, and happier lives. The negative side from neutering only may cause weight gain in dogs and cats, thus diet control very important in neutered pets.

06/04/2023

Myiasis or maggots wound is an infestation of maggots. Flies reproduce by laying eggs, which hatch and release maggots. Pets, especially those confined outside or who are weak and debilitated, are particularly susceptible. Any type of draining wound or moist coat soaked with f***s or urine can become the perfect spot for flies to lay their eggs. When the eggs hatch, maggots will begin to feast on any dead or dying tissue or even healthy tissue. The best way to prevent your pet from becoming a home for maggots is to make sure that any wounds are kept clean and that underlying skin problems are treated. Because weak and debilitated pets are more susceptible, it is important to keep them inside as much as possible and to make sure to check their coats frequently for urine and/or f***s. Any urine and f***s should be washed off of your pet’s coat daily.

Preventing Tomcat from Urinary Blockage
Once a male cat has a urinary blockage, higher risk of it happening again. Below are the tips:
• Therapeutic cat food may help dissolve your cat's crystals and maintain a healthy urine pH that contributes to overall urinary health.

• Water consumption is an important part of flushing debris from your cat's system and preventing blockage; try offering them water from a drinking fountain instead of a bowl, flavoring a second water bowl with some tuna juice and switching them to canned food if they currently eat dry food.

• Avoid obesity in cats.
• Limited number of cats. Too many cats and they have to compete for resources and some cats can bully others (i.e., alone time at the litter box or competing for food and water)
• Make sure to keep at least one more litter box in the home than you have cats, so they can have some privacy to do their business. Make sure to separate these litter boxes throughout the house. Also, be sure to clean the litter boxes daily. Litter box must clean too.
• Make sure to have one bowl per cat.
• Reduced the stress factors. eg out-of-town visitors, moving furniture or renovating can stress a cat out as well.
• Provide your cat with a cat perch or condo. Cat's love to be up high where they can see things and it gives them the privacy they want.
• Provide your cat with plenty of toys to engage them and not bored.

04/01/2023

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is caused by a feline coronavirus that affects your cats. FIP will progress very fast and almost always fatal. Early signs of FIP include fever, loss of appetite, and energy loss.
FIP comes in a "dry" form and a "wet" form with different symptoms.
Dry form causes infection and inflammatory lesions around the blood vessels in a cat’s body. This infection can affect the brain, liver, kidneys, lungs, and skin. This form often causes the cat to have seizures and move in an abnormal or uncoordinated way. In some cases, cats will also have excessive thirst and urination, vomiting, weight loss and jaundice.
While in wet form, the fluid builds up in the abdomen, chest and making it hard for the cat to breathe. This form of FIP causes damage to the blood vessels, resulting in inflammation and fluid leaking from the blood into the abdomen and chest.
Good hygiene and practice to minimise the risk of FIP include:
• Avoid keeping large groups of cats and having multiple litters of kittens at any one time
• Keep cats in small isolated groups
• Have at least one litter box for every two cats, located in easy to clean and disinfect areas
• Keep litterboxes away from food and water bowls, and clean/disinfectant them regularly (at least daily)
• Avoid stress and maintain good hygiene and preventive healthcare for all cats. Keep your cat as healthy as possible.
• Stop breeding from any queens or tom cats that repeatedly produce litters of kittens that develop FIP as they may be passing on FCoV infection or may be passing on genetic susceptibility to disease
