It’s been more than a month since this happened, my house gets hit by the recent taman sri muda flood and it was horrifying. Basically the whole ground floor was submerged in water and yes it included all my fishes. I can’t put it in words how I feels as it comes and goes way too fast and I don’t even have time to react, all I had in mind is the safety of my family at that moment. I haven’t been updating about the situation because there was way too much stuff to be settle after the flood and I think I won’t elaborate too much on it here. But now I guess I need to leave this hobby on hiatus since all things are gone, it takes too much to start over again in terms of effort, time, and even financially for now as I’m already struggling to keep it going before the flood due to my job and lifestyle. I still loves everything about betta fish and that’s why I created BettaSpiritz in the beginning, keep fighting and never give up, till then……

Daphnia is a genus of small planktonic crustaceans, popularly known as water fleas(Kutu air) that live in fresh water such as ponds, lakes and streams. Daphnia is a perfect food for Betta because it’s very high in fiber and protein level which also reduce chances of indigestion, there are 2 most common daphnia in Malaysia, daphnia magna(which shown in video) and daphnia moina(which smaller in size). Moina is suitable for Betta fry from 2 weeks and about while Magna is more suitable for adult Betta because of its size, so to raise Bettas healthier and fast, daphnia is the key!

INFUSORIA CULTURE

In the aquarium trade, the word “infusoria” is used to describe all kinds of microscopic aquatic organisms, both plant and animal. Infusoria are much smaller than brine shrimp nauplii(BBS) so they are the perfect food for fry that have just hatched and have absorbed their yolk sac. The first few days of life are incredibly important for newly hatched fry – if the fry do not receive adequate nutrition during the early stages of their life they may fail to develop properly and could even starve to death before they grow large enough to accept brine shrimp nauplii and other foods. The particular type of infusoria used to feed newly hatched fry is not important – all types of infusoria are ideal to provide fry with live food small enough for them to eat after just hatching.

Water plant is crucial for keeping Betta fish as well as other fishes, one of the floating water plant that I Iike the most is Salvinia Minima.

Salvinia minima is a species of aquatic, floating fern that grows on the surface of still waterways. It is usually referred to as common salvinia or water spangles or locally as kiambang lipan. Salvinia is an excellent floating plant for aquariums and ponds due to its attractive appearance, versatility, and fast growth rate! It also has a significant denitrification(reduce ammonia) as well as oxygenation. Salvinia also provide hiding place for baby fishes, provide shades to prevent algae outbreak and temperature stability. Some say it even reduces fishes stress level.
