Harvested a bowl full of lengkuas (galangal) from the garden.

Lengkuas may look similar to ginger, but they are different.

Lengkuas has a smooth, reddish-brown skin and the insides are pinkish-white, whereas ginger has a brown, bumpy skin with a yellow interior.

Both taste different, too.

Lengkuas has a sharp, peppery flavor with citrusy, earthy tones, in contrast to ginger, which has a warm, spicy, and slightly sweet taste.

Hope you know the difference now. I didn't! 🤭

We just harvested fresh drumsticks from our moringa tree! 🌿

We love cooking them in our sambar, and they are so tasty!

To eat, hold the drumstick with your teeth and pull with your fingers to get the pulp and seeds.

Chew the skin if you like, then throw it away. Enjoy!

Drumsticks are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and are great for your health!

Check out this awesome gardening tips from Aunty Nagamah Periapayan !

If you don't have rooting hormone at home, try placing your stem cuttings in natural alternatives like banana, onion, garlic, or aloe vera to promote root growth.

Just make sure to use a small container or polybag with soil and cover the stem with plastic or a recycled bottle with holes for aeration. Label it and voila! You can grow new plants sustainably and cost-effectively at home. Happy gardening!🌱🌿🍃

Madam Nagamah Periapayan propagated this bay leaf tree recently. Bay leaves are rich in vitamins A, B6, and C, all of which are known for their immune-supporting properties. Moreover, bay leaf tea can act as a digestive aid and help alleviate episodes of an upset stomach.

She used an air layering method to create a new bay leaf plant. Air layering is a propagation method used to root a branch while it is still attached to the parent plant. It is an easy method to create new plants with identical traits as the parent plant.

Eggplant also known as aubergines@ brinjals 🍆are rich in fiber and contains beneficial antioxidants such as vitamins A and C, that can aid in safeguarding our cells from harm.

They can be easily grown in medium sized polybags, pots or 5kg pet bottles🥰. To ensure healthy growth of plant, you just need to ensure the soil is nourished weekly with natural fertilizers such as compost, bokashi tea (made from fruit and vegetable waste) or chicken poo.

As more people become aware of the numerous advantages of moringa trees 🌿, their popularity is rising.

Moringa trees are not only a fantastic source of nutrients, but also therapeutic. Moringa is high in protein content and rich in;
✅Calcium
✅Iron
✅Zinc
✅Phosphorus
✅Vitamin B (thiamine, riboflavin)and
✅Vitamin B6.

After setting up the structure, we continued by filling our raised beds in preparation for seeding. We began with a base layer of dried leaves, shredded wood, branches, and grass clippings (weed-free), then topped it with our soil mix and compost. After a thorough watering, we let it rest for a few days to get ready for planting. Today our garden is overflowing with kaffir limes! The aroma is incredibly fragrant and mouth-watering, and the limes are a vibrant green. We use the leaves for cooking and both the fruit and leaves for preparing aromatic baths, which are so soothing and relaxing. Exciting update from our mini Kebun at Garden Road Plant Sactuary ! We have started setting up our first raised bed and decided to try something new with a metal structure. To keep weeds at bay, we placed cardboards at the bottom of the bed. Plus, we secured the corners with hooks for extra stability.
