Hi Friends! My Name is Peeps and I am a whole 3 years of age. My parents say I’m full of mischief but really, I’m just full of character. I love to be involved in whatever my family are busy with, but my favourite is to help my Dad with any DIY. I have other important jobs as well, such a chief food taster, assisting Mum with her admin work and taking our dogs for their walks. I don’t know how my family survived before I arrived! Get that Parrot out of the cage.

We would like to mention one of our great sorrows a common every day suffering. Parrots that are never allowed out of the cage, fed on a only seed diet.
Don't close your eyes when you know that somewhere in your area there is a parrot not coming out of the cage, sentenced to life imprisonment! Or maybe you are the person reading this who has a parrot that has been in the cage for years and can't get out.
Are you the voice and salvation for this parrot, will you make the change today?
What's the best thing to do if you know someone is holding a parrot like this? Talk to the owners of this parrot and try to explain that this is an attack on the life of this parrot mentally and physically.
Tell them how intelligent they are and that this loneliness and way of loving a parrot is a form of years of mental torture even though you may not see it yourself.
Imagine being locked in a cage for years (often no bigger than 60 by 80 cm). People often say but my bird is happy, always cheerful and gets enough attention but that is literally putting your head in the sand. But this parrot belonged to my father or mother and we can't do anything about it so the parrot stays in the cage, of course we won't dispose of it because the parrot is family! Would you do this to someone in your family? Lock yourself in a small room with a window for years? Giving food every day through a hole in the door and talking every now and then? That's what we people call a prison! Why would that be different with such an intelligent animal like a parrot? Take responsibility, if you can't give your parrot a quality life make sure you find someone else who can even if the parrot is old living every hour like this is an hour too much.
Do you read this while you have a parrot in your home like this? Stretch your hand over your heart and take action because in 2023 this really shouldn't be possible anymore.

These are intelligent living beings that have been removed from their natural environment by human use, the least you can do for them is give them the best life in captivity. You just can't live your life and be so heartless that you look at that cage everyday and it doesn't hurt you.

Peeps had his 6 monthly wellness check up and a manicure this week with his amazing avian vet Dr Mari De Villiers. She gave him a clean bill of health! It's so important for birds and exotic pets to have regular check ups as they often don't show obvious signs of illness until it's too late!
Thank you so much Dr Mari for always taking such amazing care of our little friends!
