The Mobile Animal Clinic - Namibia is close to completing another successful year of sterilising dogs/cats in the impoverished communities across the length and breadth of Namibia. There are so many poor people who love their companion animals and have absolutely no access to veterinary services.

Dr Baines and his wife, Sharon, initiated and drive the programme, having dedicated themselves to this cause for 8 years now. The days are physically and mentally exhausting and the poverty in the disadvantaged communities of course also impacts hugely on the emotional strain the team deals with.

Dr Chanel van der Merwe from Farmhouse Veterinary Clinic has been the anaesthetist for Dr Baines for 2024 in her adjunct position with the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Namibia. She's been an integral part of the team and has truly shown her dedication and compassion for animals and their owners, no matter which walk of life they're from. She will sadly be leaving us to focus on her private practice and starting a family. We wish her well!

Dr Baines, also a senior clinician at the UNAM School of Veterinary Medicine wishes to thank the faculty and all final year veterinary students, Pako Kids Magazine, all funders, including Have-a-Heart Namibia, and every individual who has shown their support and appreciation for his work. Dr Baines has sterilised 18 750 dogs/cats since inception of the programme. He turns 60 this month. May he be blessed with good health and support as we wish him well to continue doing this invaluable work!

Just an appreciation post to our loyal clients. Farmhouse Vet Clinic opened it's doors 5 months ago. In these 5 months we met so many new faces and paws and experienced so many wonderful moments together. We would like to thank each and every client for all their loyal support. 💕🐕🐈‍⬛🤠🌷

Not many clients know this but Dr. Chanel also spends her time on the Mobile Animal Clinic - Namibia and therefore had great support form a locum veterinarian Dr. Jacques Malan who filled her spot on her weeks away on outreach programs. She has one more trip left for the year and then her chapter on the mobile clinic will come to an end as another chapter in her personal life begins as she is expecting a baby boy due in December 2024. 🩵

She will continue her work treating and seeing all her precious patients and humans till the end of Novemeber. Have no fear, Farmhouse will still be seeing clients when she is on leave as there will be a new amazing veterinarian standing in for her in the following months.

Are your horses vaccinated yet? 🐎🐴

As a rule, horses should not be vaccinated with any vaccine within 7 days of a competition. This period is however extended to 21 days for the African Horse Sickness (AHS) vaccine as horses can get vaccine reactions for up to 3 weeks after being vaccinated.

Facts to keep in mind regarding biosecurity and horse movement is that an AHS infected horse can potentially act as a source of AHS virus for midges for 40 days from becoming infected and high viral loads are already present up to 2 days before a horse starts showing clinical signs.

Horses must be vaccinated for African Horse Sickness (with both vaccine 1 and 2) once per calendar year.

Beautiful Bailey here had an umbilical hernia repair on Tuesday. Mom got her a brand new cone of shame to protect the incision site. This is 2 days later 🤣
