Is Your Dog Scratching Non-Stop? Tips on managing the situation The suffering from Constant itching in your dog can be a source of both physical and mental anguish for the dog. If you love your dog, you will also feel the same anguish.. Constant scratching can be caused by several issues, the most common being infestation with Fleas and ticks. Other causes include: * Allergies * Skin infections * Yeast infections In treating constant itching in your dog, the best approach is to first determine the root cause of your dog's itchiness. Start by inspecting the dog’s skin for fleas and ticks. This can easily be spotted as they fix themselves tightly to dog's skin. Fleas are smaller and therefore tend to be more difficult to locate and remove than ticks. If Ticks or fleas are the culprit, you can get rid of them by giving your dog medicated baths. Consult your vet for the best medication to mix for the bath. The medicated baths will need to be repeated several times because the eggs will eventually hatch and reinfect the dog. For the other causes of constant itching in your dog, it is best to take your dog to your vet for a thorough examination/tests, diagnosis, and treatment.
