“Nigeria universities should not be seen as the stumbling block to youths progress. I don’t like students being delayed for years. We must tap their potentials at a young age.

If you want to learn everything about NYSC registration, then you are in luck. Just for you, we have a whole post dedicated to NYSC registration requirements, so that you know what to expect when the next wave of mobilization comes around. Check it out to stay in the loop!

Requirements for NYSC registration
NYSC requirements for registration

If you do not want to encounter any issues during registration, then you should read the following text very carefully and heed to it, so that the process will be smooth for everyone involved.

When mobilisation is announced, the first thing you might want to do is to go to one of NYSC websites. For general information, you can visit www.nysc.gov.ng. For NYSC online registration, head over to portal.nysc.org.ng. In order to register, you will need to have a functioning e-mail and a working Nigerian phone number. If you are a prospective member that is locally trained, you will be required to use your matriculation number to register. Use your e-mail and create a password to be able to log into the NYSC portal.

Another thing you should be aware of is that you can only register if your name appears in the Senate/Academic Board Approved Result list that has been submitted by your institution. If you are a foreign-trained prospective member of the corps, then things are slightly more complicated for you.

Requirements for NYSC
First thing you have to do is make sure that your institution is accredited. To accomplish that, you will need to reach the Federal Ministry of Education to get a verification letter, which you will later upload during registration.

If you graduated outside of Nigeria, you will need to provide the following documents during registration:

A West African Senior School Certificate (WASCC) OR General Certificate of Education (GCE) OR NECO OR their equivalent with at least 5 credits achieved in 2 sittings or less. You can also submit a High School Diploma.
A Higher National Diploma or a First Degree Certificate.
A Transcript of your Diploma or First Degree.
An international passport with pages that contain the information about your departure for your course of study.

Remember that it is your responsibility to translate your transcripts and certificates into English before uploading them if you studied in a non-English speaking country.

If you are a graduate of Optometry, Radiology, Medical Laboratory Science, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Phаrmacy and Veterinary Medicine, you will be expected to have your Certificate of Registration with your professional body. NYSC will not accept payment receipts.

Unlike before, you do not have to visit Abuja headquarters of NYSC in Nigeria to verify your documents if you studied abroad. Instead, you should take the original documents and a call-up letter with you to your orientation camp in your state of deployment. Bear in mind that presenting fake documents will lead to demobilization and decampment.

NYSC registration
Now, going back to all prospective members, your passport photos need to be up to par as well. When taking the pictures, make sure that all of your face is centred in the frame, and that the background is (off)white with no shadows.

While registering, remember that you cannot ask someone else to do it for you. In addition to this, you should not forget which of your fingers were used for biometric capturing, as this will be used for verification purposes at orientation camps. If you cannot be verified, you will not be registered.

If you want to get your call-up number by SMS and print the call-up letter online, you will need to pay ₦2,786.24. You will only need to pay once. If you want to avoid paying, you can go to your school to collect your call-up number and letter. If you are a part-time graduate, you will need to register and wait for the letter of exclusion from your institution. If you want to print the letter, you will be expected to pay ₦2,786.24 for that.

Requirements for NYSC registration
Female applicants should keep two things in mind:

If you are married, you will need to upload the copies of your marriage certificate, the place of residence of your husband and the evidence of your change of name.
If you are pregnant at the time of registration, you should not register, as your needs will not be accommodated at the camp.
Those are pretty much all the requirements outlined on the NYSC website. Even though there is no NYSC mobilization as of writing this, it never hurts to be prepared. So take this information and save it somewhere until the time comes.

The senator representing Kogi west at the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has threatened to sue the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris

- Melaye said this after two suspects who accused him (Melaye) of being their sponsor and gun supplier escaped from police cell

- He said the police must produce the suspects dead or alive

Senator Dino Melaye has threatened to sue the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over the reported escape of two suspects who accused him (Melaye) of being their sponsor and gun supplier.

Melaye who spoke on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, cited Order 43 to submit that the police had either released the suspects or killed them.

He therefore said that the police must produce the suspects dead or alive or he would sue the Police IG for intimidation, abuse of power, harrasment and mental assault.

On March 20, the Nigerian police paraded the suspects allegedly working for Melaye. The thugs were caught with two AK-47 and five pump action guns. The suspects were billed to be arraigned on Wednesday.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, the police in Lokoja announced on Wednesday that the supects along with four others escaped following a jail break.
The Kogi state commissioner of police, Mr Ali Janga said at a press conference in Lokoja that the two suspects ; Kabiru Seidu alias Osama and Nuhu Salisu alias Small escaped at about 3:21 am at the a police division in Lokoja where they were being kept in lawful custody.

According to the commissioner, four other suspects escaped along with Seidu and Salisu, bringing the total number of fleeing suspects to six.

Both Seidu and Salisu escaped in the early hours of Wednesday, a day they were supposed to be arraigned before a Lokoja Federal high court alongside Melaye and Mr Mohammed Audu who was also named by the suspects as their sponsor.

The four other suspects that escaped include Aliyu Isa, Adams Suleiman, Emmanuel Audu and Musa Mohammed.

The police commissioner said that 13 policemen, comprising five operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and eight conventional policemen on duty when the incident happened have been detained for interrogation.

“The 13 police officers who were on duty when the incident occurred were defaulted and detained for interrogation,” he said.

Janga also stated that the names of the six fleeing suspects and that of Dino Melaye and Mohammed Audu had been sent for watch listing by the Interpol for immediate arrest anywhere they are found.
He appealed to residents to assist the police with useful information on the whereabouts of the suspects by reporting to the nearest police station.

The police enjoined members of the public to go about their lawful duty as the command was in full control of the situation and determined to provide adequate security.

Meanwhile, reported that the Kogi state police command confirmed that two suspects who recently indicted Senator Dino Melaye of arming them with weapons to cause trouble in Kogi state ahead of 2019 elections have escaped from custody.

The commissioner of police in Kogi state, Ali Janga, on Wednesday, March 28, disclosed that the suspects escaped from police cell alongside four other suspects.

Janga said the suspects escaped from police custody at the 'A' Division in Lokoja at about 3.20 am on Wednesday, March 28.

Members of the House of Representatives have begun moves to override the rejection of the Peace Corps bill by President Muhammadu Buhari

- One hundred and seventy three lawmakers have appended their signature to a document in the Lower Chamber

- The document is being advocated in the House by four lawmakers who are also lobbying for the bill to become a reality

One hundred and seventy three members of the House of Representatives have begun moves to override the recent rejection of the Peace Corps bill by President Muhammadu Buhari, New Telegraph reports.

The lawmakers began coalition of signatures to veto President Buhari's assent and make it an Act of Parliament. It was gathered that 173 lawmakers have appended their signatures to the document through an advocacy by four of their colleagues.
It was gathered that a lawmaker from Rivers state who spoke under anonymity said: “We need just 240 members to overturn the table against him (president) and we are double sure that in the next two weeks, we will convince more members to join this movement. So far, I can confirm to you that we have 173 members already on our list and this is authentic.

“What we are doing is not about party or religion or region; it is about Nigeria; it is about the future of our youths who are roaming about the streets due to lack of jobs. “The Peace Corps is a veritable platform to create employment and reduce corruption in Nigeria. Mr. President cannot be telling Nigerians, ‘we don’t have money’ when the country is contributing to many bodies."

He also expressed confidence that their collegaues at the Upper Chamber would secure the required number to meet the lawmakers' aim.
“Our colleagues in the Senate are very much in tune with what we are doing; they are as concerned as we are because Nigerians are suffering; our youths are being held hostage by an insensitive government. I can assure you, we are going to get the two-thirds and we will go ahead and create the Peace Corps for our youths," he said.

The lawmaker, however, declined to disclose the identity of those who have appended their signatures to the document.

He said: "We are keeping our list close to our hearts and we will not like to make it public now. But what I can assure you is that, there is a group, we have gotten 173 followers as at today and we are ready to override his (president’s) assent, and there is no going back. At the appropriate time, we will make our identity known."

"Just imagine the number of jobs it can create. I must say Dickson Akoh (the commandant) has done a good job and we must encourage him,” the lawmaker said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that a Peace Corps commandant in Nasarawa state had appealed to President Buhari to reconsider his stand on the bill.

Bala Joshua while meeting with a group of disabled person in Shabu-Lafia said the rejected bill would create room for youth employment in Nigeria.

He said assenting the bill will also reduce youth restiveness across Nigeria and will help the corps to synergise with other security agencies across the country in the area of conflict resolution strategy.

Orders CPs to disarm militias, vigilantes in states
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has lost his bid to stop the contempt charge brought against him by the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) over his alleged flouting of court orders.

Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in a ruling yesterday, dismissed the preliminary objection raised by Idris against his personal appearance in court.

The Judge in the ruling ordered him to appear in Court on March 13, 2018 to explain why he should not be jailed for his disobedience of March 26, 2014 court order restraining the Police from interfering with the activities of the Peace Corps. In his preliminary objection against the contempt charge as submitted by his counsel, David Igbodo, the IGP claimed that he was not personally served with form 48 in relation to the contempt charge.

He prayed the court to void the contempt charge and set it aside on the ground that the form 48 that summoned him to appear in court was served on the commissioner of Police in charge of legal matters at the Force Headquarters. But Justice Oriji in his ruling slammed the IGP for employing technicality and delay tactics to frustrate the charge against him.

The Judge imposed a fine of N25,000 on the Police Chief and ordered him to personally appear in court on the adjourned date.Counsel to Peace Corps, Joshua Yakubu Musa (SAN), had approached the Abuja High Court asking it to commit Idris to prison for two years for flouting the judgment of the court delivered on March 26, 2014.

He submitted that in spite of the restraining order against the Police not to interfere with operations of the Corps, the Police refused to obey the court order by sealing up its head office, among others.

In the 2014 judgment, Police was fined N12.5m as compensation for the principal officers and men of the corps who were arbitrarily arrested and detained in various cells across the country.Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi (SAN) had filed another contempt charge against Idris for disobeying the Federal High Court order that the Police should unseal the Peace Corps office in Abuja.

Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, gave the fresh judgment.Meanwhile, the IGP has ordered all the state Commissioners of Police (CPs) to immediately disarm militias and vigilantes in their states. He also warned state governments against arming militias to protect citizens of their states, saying no law in the land empowers them to do so.

He argued that the Constitution made it clear that only the security agencies were responsible for carrying arms and ammunition, adding that those who violate the law in whatever guise would be dealt with accordingly.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is deploying more facilities to enforce the N133.28 ex-depot price per litre

- The NNPC also released phone numbers to the public to report infractions by marketers or retailers

- Umar Ajiya says fuel queues are easing off around the country

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it has deployed more of its depots and other through-put facilities to enforce the N133.28 ex-depot price of premium motor spirit, better known as petrol, to marketers directly.

The NNPC also warned against fuel hoarding and enjoined motorists and other consumers to report any infraction by marketers or any NNPC retail outlets to 0906 000 5621, 0906 000 5622, 0906 000 5623, 0906 000 5624 for immediate action.

A press statement signed by the group general manager, group public affairs division of the NNPC, Ndu Ughamadu, and obtained by NAIJ.com, quoted the managing director of PPMC, Umar Ajiya, as saying that the measure became necessary to resolve the price differentials between some of its stakeholders.

The statement said Ajiya noted that the through-put facilities along with some of its coastal depots would go a long way in ensuring that marketers access PMS at the approved government price.

He stressed that that the corporation had adequate supply of petrol, advising against panic buying.

“As at today, I want to confirm that the NNPC/PPMC has more than 20 days sufficiency both at marine and land depots and we are still operating 24 hours at the depots and all NNPC Retail Outlets to wet the nation with PMS,” Ajiya said.

He said the corporation received between one and two PMS-laden ships daily and that there were days that the NNPC/PPMC took delivery of four cargoes of ship laden with petroleum products.

Ajiya stated that queues were easing out across the country going by feedbacks from the field and that most of the filling stations were selling at the approved price of N145 per litre.

He further said the daily truck-outs from the depots had been increased from 1,733 trucks to 2000 trucks per day, adding that efforts are on to sustain the tempo in order to flood the market with PMS.

He called on marketers to desist from hoarding and diversion of petroleum products to neighbouring countries, stressing that the corporation was working hand-in-hand with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and other security agencies to sanction defaulters.

NAIJ.com earlier reported how the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Thursday, January 11, in Abuja urged Nigerians not to engage in panic buying of any petroleum products.

The report quoted NAN as saying that a statement by the NNPC spokesman, Ndu Ughamadu, assured motorists that the corporation had a robust stock of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol.

According to the statement, the PMS stock was sufficient to serve the nation for more than 30 days.
