IS IT SAFE TO FEED BONES TO DOGS?

While dogs want to chew ,and most of them would love to chew on bones ,bones are dangerous and they can cause serious injuries as

[ ] Broken teeth
[ ] Injuries to the gum,mouth and tongue
[ ] Bone get stuck around the teeth
Lodging of bone pieces in the digestive tract,piercing the soft tissue at the back of the throat or oesophagus.
[ ] Piece of bone could also get into the trachea, interfering with your dog's ability to breathe.

There are safe chews for dogs e.g rawhide,dentastix which are suitable for dogs of all ages .

When you are tempted to feed bones to your dog ,remember the potential risks and avoid doing so as much as possible.

WHAT SHOTS DO PUPPIES NEED?

To protect your pet from contagious diseases keep his essential vaccinations up-to-date. Vaccinations are meant to sensitise your pet immunity against those diseases.This is very important even if your pet is mostly indoors.
The core vaccinations for dogs in Nigeria are against DHLPP and Rabies.DHLPP is an acronym for DISTEMPER,HEPATITIS, LEPTOSPIROSIS, PARA-INFLUENZA and PARVOVIRUS. It is a 5-in-1 vaccination.
Puppies should receive their first vaccinations at 6-8 weeks. Vaccinations are given at 2-4 weeks interval until actual protection is expected to be achieved. Depending on your puppy age he may require 3-4 vaccinations for Distemper/parvo until he is 16-20 weeks of age.
Adult dog require an annual vaccination booster every year.

Vaccinations against rabies is required by the law at 3month and a booster 12 months later,then yearly booster is recommended.
