WHAT SHOTS DO PUPPIES NEED?

To protect your pet from contagious diseases keep his essential vaccinations up-to-date. Vaccinations are meant to sensitise your pet immunity against those diseases. This is very important even if your pet is mostly indoors.
The core vaccinations for dogs in Nigeria are against DHLPP and Rabies.DHLPP is an acronym for DISTEMPER,HEPATITIS, LEPTOSPIROSIS, PARA-INFLUENZA and PARVOVIRUS. It is a 5-in-1 vaccination.
Puppies should receive their first vaccinations at 6-8 weeks. Vaccinations are given at 2-4 weeks interval until actual protection is expected to be achieved. Depending on your puppy age he may require 3-4 vaccinations for Distemper/parvo until he is 16-20 weeks of age.
Adult dog require an annual vaccination booster every year.

Vaccinations against rabies is required by the law at 3month and a booster 12 months later, then yearly booster is recommended.

SIGNS THAT YOUR DOG IS COLD.

Cold months can be hard on your dog and things can become dangerous quickly if you aren't paying attention.

It is our responsibility as pet parents to keep our pets safe and provide them with warmth.Just because the dog has a furry coat doesnt mean he is completely protected from cold temperature. When your dog is cold there are signs they show to let you know they need to be warmed up.

You need to watch out for these signs to avoid further complications.

Weather- if it is too cold for you to be outside,it is too cold for your dog to be outside.

Shivering- excessive shaking is another way your dog shows signs that it may be too cold.

Cold ears-if you are unsure that your dog may be cold, feel their ears,if cold, particularly around the edges it's time to keep them warm.

Slow movement-Your dog will look like they don't want to be outside when they are feeling cold, they walk slowly, attempting to hide behind or under different object, they are likely attempting to shelter themselves from cold.

Curling up--curling up into a ball when outside or is hunched over with their tails tucked in,they are very likely cold.

Limping-You must always care for your dog's paws because the paws are susceptible to cold.when your dogs limp, they are trying to tell you that their paws are too cold, and a sign your dog is too cold.

Whining-when dogs are uncomfortable due to cold they bark, whimper or whine to let you know.they may also look agitated or anxious.

Extreme sleepiness or lethargy-this is most likely a sign of hypothermia.Warm your dog up immediately.

Being in the cold for so long can lead to frostbite or hypothermia which can be fatal.

call a vet immediately if he is stiff, have a hard time breathing or is barely moving.

During the cold month, dogs should not be left alone outside, and make sure you have a shelter like a dog house with a heater.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON SYMPTOMS THAT YOUR DOG IS STARTING TO FEEL UNWELL?

There are a large number of health problems which dogs can encounter in their lifetimes, with the vast majority being relatively minor, but a minority being extremely dangerous.

By having a good understanding of the signs that your dog may be falling ill, you can know what to expect and how to deal with it.

Furthermore, having the ability to observe and understand a dog's symptoms in the early stages of an illness can help immensely when a vet has to diagnose the problem later on, speeding up the process of your dog getting the treatment they need.

We all want our furry friends to remain in good health as long as possibly, but in the common place nature of diseases and a large potential for a dog to become injured in the course of daily life,it is inevitable that they will sooner or later run into a problem.Fortunately, most of the signs that something is wrong are fairly easy to spot, making it simple for dog owners like you to know when your pet is falling ill and act accordingly.

Common signs that your dog is starting to feel unwell include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, laboured breathing, coughing, dull coat, exhaustion, excess

scratching, excess licking, jaundice, coprophagia, bloody stool, dry nose, blood shot eyes, persistent sneezing, whining, muscle spasm, aggression, seclusion (withdrawal), refusal to eat, shivering, loss of coordination, abdominal pain etc.

Call your vet once you notice any of these symptoms.

Happy New month

How can I make my Dog aggressive? He doesn't bark at strangers!

One of the most frequently asked questions by dog lovers is the one that borders around the guard instinct.

As humans have different temperaments based on genetics so dog also exhibits different natures and this is why it's good to ask questions about the health status, temperament and medical records of the parents, when you are buying a puppy.

Reasons why your dog might not be barking include timid personality, needing time to become comfortable in its new surroundings, bad past experience, bad hearing ,health issues... among others.

What to do about your dog not barking

Give it time

Make sure it's not having a medical problem.confirm this with your vet.

Train it to bark with the use of positive reinforcement training. This is where you reward your dog for displaying the behaviour which you want to see from it and stop rewarding it when it stops displaying them.

However there are dog trainers who could help in making your dog more aggressive.consult your vet for more advise on this subject.
