World Rabies Day Commemoration at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Jos

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Jos, hosted a successful commemoration of World Rabies Day today. The event, marked by a series of enlightening activities, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of rabies and promote preventive measures.
The commemoration kicked off with a thought-provoking lecture session and awareness campaign. Distinguished dignitaries, including representatives of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, the Food and Agricultural Organization country Rep., the Plateau State Commissioner for Agriculture, the Plateau State Director of Veterinary Services, the Director Veterinary Teaching Hospital Universityof Jos, the Representative of the Dean Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and other key stakeholders, graced the occasion.
Each speaker shared valuable insights into the menace of rabies, emphasizing the urgent need for societal engagement and proactive measures to curb its spread.
A significant highlight of the event was the flag-off of a mass dog vaccination campaign by the Plateau State Commissioner of Agriculture. This initiative provided free vaccination services to dogs brought by various owners, contributing significantly to rabies prevention efforts in the state.
Students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine actively participated in the commemoration, lending their support to various activities. Their enthusiasm and dedication were instrumental in the success of the event.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital deserves commendation for organizing such a meaningful event annually and providing students with the opportunity to contribute to the fight against rabies.
