Dear Poultry Farmer,

If feeder space is insufficient, growth rates will be reduced and uniformity will be compromised.

Feed distribution and the proximity of the feeder to the birds are essential for achieving optimum feed consumption rates. The main factor reducing feed consumption is high temperatures. Feed should be withheld at the hottest time of the day, to prevent heat stress and the resultant mortality.

Pan feeders are better than trough feeders, as they allow unrestricted bird movement around the feeder and there is lower incidence of feed spillage and improved feed conversion.

In most commercial operations, automated pan or trough and chain feeders are used, providing 2.5 cm of feeder space per bird.

To reduce feed spillage, the lip of the feeder should be level with the bird’s back.

I was privillaged again to educate one of the most young hard working Rural Poultry Farmer by name Mathew Stanly on Feed Management in a poultry farm in Abuja, Nigeria.

He keeps complaining on how his chickens waste feed at this hard time feed is very expensive.

One of the greatest thing you can do for your animals and pets is to keep an eye.

You don't want something going wrong and you have no idea until it becomes late.

Any unusual behaviour must be attended to as soon as possible.

Mrs X is on the phone to her vet panicking

Mrs X: Hello Dr, I've just discovered bunny (her pet) is not moving, he has been on one spot all day.

I just picked him up and he is covered with brown and watery faeces.....

Dr: Has he been having diarrhoea before today?

Mrs X: I can't tell Dr he has always been in the garden

Dr: What is his appetite like and what has he been eating?

Mrs X: Dr I can't tell, he's always in the garden

Dr: Please bring bunny down as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, Bunny did not make it back home.

One of the key factors to consider while planning animal production is the source of water.

This is because, many activities within the farm would require constant availability of water.

But most importantly, drinking water for your animals.

💦💦It has to be free from germs and conterminations

💦💦It has to be the required pH (it shouldn't be more acidic or alkaline, neither should it be less acidic or alkaline)

💦💦It has to be sufficient

Some farmers experience reoccurring diseases and all treatments have failed...
