Update on ✨CHANCE✨

We have not received any new foster applications in over a month 😢 and many of our dependable fosters are leaving Nicaragua for the season ☀️
If you are familiar with our organization then you know that we rely on fosters to provide shelter and love for all of our rescued dogs 🐕 We cannot continue to rescue dogs and puppies if we do not have fosters for them 💔

✨ RESCUE UPDATE ✨
This dog was rescued on May 17th with probably the worst case of TVT we have ever seen 👀 He has now received two chemotherapy treatments and is doing noticeably better! 💕
Our May theme for names given to rescue dogs has been classic movies 🍿 We have named this dog “Chance” after one of the characters in the classic movie Homeward Bound 🐾 We also think it is a very fitting name for him!
A very big thank you to everyone who has donated towards helping Chance receive the care he needs 🙏🏼 We are hopeful that he can make a recovery although there is still a very long road ahead for him 🐶

We are looking to do intensive bloodwork begin chemotherapy as soon as possible to help his pain. “Alaska” is a graduate of our Mama Dog Program from a litter born in November 2023 🐕 He was placed in a foster home when he was 3 months old and his foster decided to adopt him… but sadly this forever home turned out not to be forever 💔
Over the past several days we received reports that Alaska was being beaten 😢 and he was re-rescued 🆘
Alaska is now looking for a TRUE forever home 🏡 (or temporary foster home) He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and has no health issues 💙 He is very sweet and loves to give gentle kisses 💋 He walks well on a leash and gets along with other dogs and cats 🐕🦺
He still has puppy energy so needs a family who is willing to walk and play with him 🎾 But he is quiet and well mannered

“Lassie” has a family who is unable to care for her and her newborn puppies 🐾
One of the big hearted SOS fosters took Lassie and her tiny puppies into their home 🏡 We are looking for donations to help provide a healthy diet for Lassie as she nurses her babies 🍼
One of SOS’s most important community programs is our “Mama Dog Program” where we support pregnant and nursing dogs and take responsibility for adopting out the puppies and making sure they are fully vaccinated and sterilized 💉 Over time, this program has the potential to address the overpopulation problem of dogs in San Juan del Sur 🐕 However, it is very expensive to run this program: each puppy costs the organization about $200 during their first 4 months of life ✨

Our move to a new location has presented the purr-fect opportunity to redesign the animal enclosures 🐾
The kitten room, for example, is in desperate need of a revamp 🐈 We are trying to raise $600 to create a space for the rescued kittens to grow in while they wait to be adopted by the forever families 💛 We hope to utilize all of the vertical space by building cat shelves, bridges, and boxes 🗃️ The kitten room is also utilized by educational programs, especially kids’ programs, and so we want to equip the room with a bench for comfortable sitting 📚
Almost all of the kittens obtained by SOS Animales are found in dumpsters or plastic bags on the side of the road 🗑️ SOS Animales makes sure all kittens are spayed and neutered before they are adopted, with the hope that over time we will help to address the immense cat overpopulation program in San Juan del Sur 😻

Sterilizing dogs dramatically improves their quality of life and offers them protection against injury and disease ❣️ Not to mention it’s the only way to address the overpopulation crisis we see in our community and in similar communities across the world 🌍

🐈⬛ KITTENS OF THE WEEK 🐈
For the past several months we have been having an extra difficult time finding forever homes for our rescue kittens 💔 Our kitten of the week posts are to help you get to know our kittens better 🐾 Please message us if you are interested in adopting! Daisy was found tied up in a garbage bag 😓 Daisy and her sisters were brought to SOS and placed in foster care. 🏡 It took a month to socialize them with humans after such a hard start, but her loving and trusting nature helped her overcome this and she is now the sweetest angel who loves people. 😇She is also a fantastic hunter and will be a great help with unwanted pests at home
Pico is one of our oldest kittens at SOS and has been living in the kitten room for far too long 👀 He loves to play, talk and cuddle 🥰 While he loves all his friends and attention he gets at the clinic he is ready for his own food bowl and more space to run around 🐈⬛

Chili is an ADORABLE puppy (about 3.5 months old) and he is available for adoption! ✨
Chili is sweet sweet sweet and very smart! 🐾 He is already house trained, and knows sit and shake 🤝
Chili was rescued from horrifying conditions 💔 He had been tied on a short leash and his collar was embedded in his neck 😢 He currently has a large scar but this will likely heal over time

UPDATE: FOUND DOG 👏🏼 Milan has a family 😱 Through shares on social media, a family has been reunited with their dog 🩷 Milan aka “Lucy” has been missing since December, when she ran away after being scared by the bombas 💥 After over a month of being lost, Lucy was very happy to see her family again when they came to pick her up from SOS Clinica Veterinaria 💞

💙 MEET CHLOE 💙 Chloe is a 4-5 year old female pit bull who was abandoned by her family & left in a short chain in their backyard to suffer to death. 🫣 Luckily, for the last 6 months, the neighbors have been feeding her scraps and making sure she has water to stay her alive. 🥹🐾 The neighbors informed us of the situation & we are now involved, helping Chloe to get back to good health with a hopes for a future adoption. 😍🐕 With Chloe being in the constant sun, rain and all of the outside ailments of Nicaragua, she is very sick & severely underweight. 🌧🤒 We also found a cancerous tumor on her back leg that we will need to get removed and begin chemotherapy treatments. 🩹🐶 We have all of the optimism that Chloe will become happy & healthy again with time, medicine, and a lot of love. 🫶🏻 If you feel called to help sponsor Chloe’s recovery, please consider donating to the link below. ⬇️ With all of her medicine, food, vet visits, chemotherapy, and surgery, our bills will be around $400-$500 to get her back to where she needs to be! 💙🐾 ➡️ linktr.ee/sosanimalesnica ⬅️

SOS Animales went “undercover” on Wednesday & investigated the recurring puppy trafficking problem near the Uno gasolinera. 🐶🆘 Here is what we found as shown in the video: ⬇️🥺 ✅ No drinking water was present in ANY cage. ✅ The puppies showed signs of parasites, skin problems, illness, or lethargy ✅ They we’re all handled aggressively, without love or care ✅ The man admitted to not knowing the Mom or Dad, their history, or health backgrounds, and presented us with faulty vaccine cards ✅ The puppies were taken from their mother too young at only 1 month of age ✅ All of the puppies were bought from breeders in Masaya to be used for money to resell ✅ The puppies were allowed to walk on the sidewalk to eat their own diarrhea or trash ✅ This puppy trafficking act goes against Nicaragua Animal Protection Law 747 By buying one of these puppies (priced at $150-$200) because they are “purebred” or to “save” them, only helps encourage these men to continue using animals as a currency! 😢🐾 This community does NOT support animal trafficking! 😤 Please stand up to this mistreatment & DO NOT support this industry‼️🐾 ADOPT DON’T SHOP! 🤍🐕 … SOS Animales se puso "de incógnito" el miércoles e investigó el problema recurrente del tráfico de cachorros cerca de Uno gasolinera. 🐶🆘 Esto es lo que encontramos como se muestra en el video: ⬇️🥺 ✅ No había agua potable en NINGUNA jaula. ✅ Los cachorros mostraron signos de parásitos, problemas de piel, enfermedad o letargo ✅ Todos somos manejados agresivamente, sin amor ni cuidado. ✅ El hombre admitió no conocer a la mamá o al papá, su historial o antecedentes de salud, y nos presentó tarjetas de vacunas defectuosas. ✅ Los cachorros fueron separados de su madre demasiado jóvenes con solo 1 mes de edad ✅ Todos los cachorros fueron comprados a criadores en Masaya para ser usados por dinero para revender ✅ A los cachor
🤍 FRANKLIN 🤍 Franklin has been in foster care for almost 1 year now with not one adoption application. 🥺 He has been through more than any dog should ever experience & needs his forever home. 🏡🐾 This sweet boy was found emaciated, neglected, filled with parasites, & had the worst case of TVT cancer in his pen*s we have ever seen. 🤕 He received 4 full rounds of chemotherapy & a pen*s amputation & is FULLY HEALED & HEALTHY!! 🙌🏽 We owe everything to his amazing foster mom who has helped him learn the life of being a loved dog. ❤️🩹 If you are looking to add a dog to your home or family, please consider this amazing boy. CAT STERILIZATION DAYS 😘🐱 Every Tuesday & Friday we have cat sterilization day at SOS Clínica Veterinaria! 🏩 This is a public sterilization day where we open our doors to feral cats and the locals’ cats, to spay & neuter. 🐈 By continuing this program we hope to decrease the frequency of trash kittens we receive on a weekly basis. 🗑🐈⬛ Please contact us if you have a feral cat problem in your house or neighborhood, so we can make a plan together to get them trapped & sterilized, so they can live healthier & longer lives. 😻🫶🏻
