The finished wallet. Made from Italian vegetable tanned leather and lined with French chevre. Custom order for a long haul trucker with enough slots for all his cards and two pockets for receipts and paper currency. Laser engraved significant date added. The size and generous rounded corners were requested for comfort. This wallet was made a while ago and has since clocked up a lot of mileage on the highways of Europe.
Our standard bifold wallet is made from hand dyed vegetable tanned leather, saddle stitched with edges that have been burnished and waxed. Less bulky than the bikers/ long wallet but still room for 8 cards and bills.
Today we take delivery of this sewing beast 👊
A short video demonstrating the use of a #barryking common edger as requested by @baskedbags. Here I'm making bracelets and belt key fobs. Soon to be listed in my Etsy shop.
Just finished processing photos of my latest leather build. I didn't realise both dogs are sleeping at my feet 💜
I've had a few enquiries about how I make my coin conchos. So here's another short video, the next in the sequence. Once the coin has been annealed and cooled down it is then domed into shape. I use both a hardwood and metal dapping/doming kit.
Having learned the process it's very rewarding to be able to turn just about any coin into a concho. This is the first step, annealing the coins to prevent them cracking when doming into shape later on. Hand made with passion. Hope your Sunday is peaceful.
So I decided to add corners to my Keaton minimal wallets to give them a more classic look. I first had to draw the shape by hand then scanned the image into Adobe Illustrator. After getting the corners to the dimension and size I was happy with I then exported the file to the laser for cutting. I still cut most of my leather by hand but for such small items as these corners I find using the laser is a good choice for speed and accuracy. It does take some time dialing in between Ai and the laser settings but once done it becomes a "cookie cutter" process.
It's good to get the leather away from the workspace.
All hand made with black and congac Horween Dublin. The indian head penny concho is real and made by me. Well I thought this would be the final Premium version of my Keaton minimal wallet. However today I started working on another version. This one is now sold.
With a freshly sharpened bell knife skiving is a piece of cake.
The fact that it sparks like a toy ray gun is a bonus 😁
