To spray or not to spray?

Let's talk about a common misconception: spraying cats with water to correct their behaviour. While it might seem like a quick fix, it's actually not a positive solution for our feline friends. Here's why:

1️⃣ Stress & Fear: Spraying cats with water can cause them to associate fear and stress with their environment or with you. This can lead to anxiety and in fact, worsen the behavioural issues you're trying to address.

2️⃣ Trust issues: Our bond with our cats is built on trust. When we resort to punishment like spraying water, we risk damaging that trust and creating a rift in our relationship.

3️⃣ Ineffective: Most importantly, it's simply not an effective method of training. Cats are intelligent creatures, and positive reinforcement techniques work much better in the long run.

So, let's focus on understanding our cats' natural behaviours. Patience, consistency, and love go a long way in helping our feline friends become their best selves. And for everything else, We Speak Cats will help you. ❤️🐾

Imagine you want to use a toilet. You have to climb tens of steps, take a high jump on a slippery platform, do seven lunges, five squats and then find a unicorn before you can actually get access to do your business. Sounds crazy? Complex litter boxes are the same for cats. Your cat needs a simple box to do it's business. Robots, high rise boxes, noisy boxes can all stress your cat out, worsen their health and sometimes create behavioural issues like peeing outside the box. Cat litter boxes need to be simple and easy to get to. Low entry, easy access, soft litter type, big wide box and can be open or closed depending on your cat's need. Please don't fall for the marketing gimmicks of the fancy litter boxes. Remember, litter boxes are meant to fulfil the cats' needs and not humans'.

Meet my cats, Bubbles (tabby) and Spud (ginger) 😻. They're both lazing around in the sun. Both relaxed and enjoying themselves and the few days of Dutch summer 😅. But one of them loves belly rubs and the other will bite your hand off. Can you guess which one's which? It's almost impossible to know.
Cats lay on their backs when they feel safe and comfortable around you. They tend to expose their bellies as they would do in the wild as a sign of surrender or trust. Touching that vulnerable spot is violating their trust, no matter how tempting it looks. So if your kitty lays on their back next to you, please avoid touching their most vulnerable spot. Let them bask in your trust and let them show you how much they love you and feel safe with you.
Bubbles loves belly rubs but it was a natural formation of her asking for it and me realising that she likes it and came for more. Spud gave me a stern warning and I never broke his trust. You cat communicates with you all the time. But can you speak cats? I would love to help you build a stronger bond with your cats.
