It occurred to me that that for once, our human eyes are able to see a tiny fraction of what our dogs smell. The snow leaves tracks and traces of the past - scent of whom or what was there and in which direction they were heading! 🐾👣

Fyi, I literally have a list of species vs quantity of scent receptors that I add to, and some are seriously impressive. Never, ever try and hide from a bear...they have BILLIONS!🤣

We as humans have an average of 5 million scent receptors. Dachshunds have 125 million, Fox Terriers have 147 million, German Shepherds and Beagles have around 225 million and Bloodhounds have approximately 300 million (the most of all canine species.) I would LOVE to work with one of those beasts! 🥰

Anyway, my point being that it puts into perspective just how important the olfactory system is when it comes to (wo)man's best friend and why I focus so much on challenging the human end of the leash to become more dog. Many of my Nero folk have started training detection/trailing as part of their behaviour modification programme. Not only does it encourage focus, build confidence and channel prey drive in a healthy manner, it's also super fun!👃

Teenage Fisher has recently signed up to the Nero Premium package to help manage his excitability. He’s an incredibly sweet boy with endless enthusiasm when meeting both new and familiar people.😅

Today, he joined his sister Lilly for her training session. Promoting harmony in the home is high on our agenda and social learning comes with so many benefits. He did incredibly well and even accepted me - a huge win for this sensitive, nervous boy! 💛

This sweet girl relocated from the US just a few short weeks ago...cue a complete environmental shift and sensory overload. After previously having plenty of space to roam and wiggle, the busy streets of Amsterdam now present new challenges, from navigating crowds to encountering countless dogs and people.😬

Thankfully, Alice is a friendly girl so we just need to fine tune her "manners" and introduce those important life skills to prepare her for this new chapter. Great session gang - Nero Network, we will be seeking stooges in the new year!💯

Rocky has been doing his homework! This woof is extremely afraid of fireworks - to the point where he would refuse to venture outdoors during the daytime.🎆

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working on concepts designed to build his confidence and most importantly, increase his resilience. Tolerance and the ability to bounce back after a scary moment are essential life skills; they help regulate the nervous system and support long-term emotional stability. Learning how to help a dog come OUT of that flight mode can be tough and is a skill in itself. So proud of this team's progress, keep going!👏

This happy-go-lucky chap is an absolute lovebug. He adores attention of any kind and wants to play with every dog and human he meets!😜

Sometimes his enthusiasm bubbles over, and he’ll bark at other dogs. We had our first session yesterday to work on his arousal levels, and he was a wonderfully eager student (and so were his humans!). We’ll be looking for stooges in the new year, so keep your eyes peeled, Nero Network! 😇

This young lad has been hit hard by puberty! He’s a confident character, very sure of himself and his surroundings (which is fantastic) but that selective hearing can sneak in the moment he catches the scent of a rabbit.🐰

Puberty in dogs is very real, and most guardians will experience it at some point. It’s important to introduce training that your dog can actively participate in and truly enjoy on an instinctual level, so it feels less like a chore and more like meaningful engagement. What a wonderful first session with this team, great work, everyone!👏
