9 years ago I took a trip to DOA (Dierenopvang Amsterdam) and fell head over paws in love with a big German Shepherd named Nero.🐶

My first Pitty tripod!🥰

Champion is a 4 year old Pitbull who hails from Brazil. He's got quite the story and lost his front leg thanks to a gun shot during a police operation. He's been with his current family for a few years and despite having 3 legs, is quite the confident guy. BUT we are dealing with some dog and human reactivity, mainly based in excitement. He has some BIG feelings and does not know how to process them.🐶

We had a wonderful consultation to get him and his humans familiar with the Nero approach and he did great! Very excited for this next chapter in your lives.😊

So very pleased with Gokyo and how well he has responded to our training programme!🤱

As his little sister decided to arrive a few weeks early, we had to bring our planned session forward to make sure the transitonal process remained as smooth as possible. So far, so good - training has paid off and he and baby are doing well! We just need to smooth out one final speed bump when it comes to guests and we are on the home run! 💪

Say hello to Borg, a two year old Corgi! He travelled from Utrecht to train together today (Nero Utrecht division, you have another member!😋)

This boy is so very smart but as dogs do, can get a little carried away when it comes to certain things. Our focus today was mainly the Nero foundations and pattern work...naturally, this boy excelled in all areas. Really pleased how well his humans picked up the concepts too. Ready to get those reps in?!🥰

We put these girls through their paces this morning with our doorbell training! Like with almost all of my doggy duos, they are totally opposite characters and need a bespoke, individual approach.Good work everyone, excited to see how this plays out! 😇

P.s - Another multi-dog household (that's 5 pairs this week alone! Simultaneously training two or more dogs is certainly a skill!🤪)

Wow, what a dog!! Meet Milka, a 4 year old Australian Shepherd who recently relocated from Brazil with her family. Milka is very reactive to dogs and humans - she puts on quite the show when she spots a change in her environment....🙈

Getting to grips with those important genetic tendancies is crucial to understanding her reactivity and finding the solution. We covered SO much during our consultation and honestly, I know this family will benefit ten fold from everything they learned. Herding breeds have their own lane and of course, are a personal favourite of mine to work with. Kudos to you guys for being open minded to my suggestions. Really eager to see this girl again in a few weeks time. Time to get training!💪

The Nero tune up training class (games and tricks) was so much fun!🤣

From jumping through hoops to sack races and egg and spoon leash challenges, this lot brought their "A" game and sense of humour! Always a pleasure working with these dogs and humans. Oh yes and a big thank you to my two new shadow students, Janhavi and Kate!🥳

There is a saying "they may forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel." For me, there is no bigger compliment than a client returning for training as they turn the page of a new chapter in life...sounds soppy, right? 🙊

All jokes aside though, I pride myself on being creative in my approach, strive to empower the dog in front of me but never, EVER forget about my human student. Both ends of the leash are learning and as a dog trainer, I'm the dedicated translator between two species... 🐾👣

This girl (and my long term Nero folk might even remember Nina from puppy class all those years ago) was a tiny woof when we first started training together. She moved 5 years ago with her family to Austria and has acheived incredible things (aka best hunting dog with top marks in all her exams!) Since then, life has happened including the passing of her beloved big sister (R.I.P dear Lola, you were an amazing dog) and the arrival of a new puppy...you will see her later.☺️

Since Lola crossed the rainbow bridge, Nina has been struggling with anxiety and is lacking confidence in areas outside of the trial fields. So here we are together again, 5 years later with a new family dynamic, helping Nina to regain focus and increase her self-assurance. It was so, SO good to see you all and I am beyond grateful (and humbled) that we're working together again despite the distance! I'll be making use of The Nero Network: clients only for this girl so keep your eyes on our group! I literally have the best job ever! 😇

This gorgeous girl is a 2 year young Australian Shepherd (yep, another herder joins the Nero Squad!☺️)

Kaley finds it tough when it comes to people approaching her Mama, can struggle with children running and really wrestles with the idea of being able to relax in the city environment. We had an excellent consultation earlier today and there were plenty of light bulb moments for everyone, especially Kaley! She was a complete natural and took to training with ease and elegance. Thanks for coming guys, excited to see what you can achieve now you know how!🤩

You've probably read it on my previous posts or heard me say it but LGD's (Livestock Guardian Dogs) really are a special kind of spice. This girl is an Estrela Mountain Dog (aka Portguese Mountain Dog) who lunges and barks at pretty much anything. Dogs, humans, passing buses etc. Everything in her genetic makeup encourages this forward movement and it can be extremely tough managing this level of reactivity in an urban environment.🤪

During our consult today we fine- tuned some of the basic communication concepts (her handler already had a wonderful understanding of his role as handler) and got to work on introducing pattern exercises and relaxation protocols to help this girl "turn off." Always work with Mother Nature, never against it. Really good session today guys, I'm pleased she warmed up to me and my approach so fast.😆

What a little wonder woof Füsti is! This girl really is an eager beaver - she's confident, sassy and loves the game of train.🥳

She recently arrived in NL and over the past couple of weeks has been began rehearsing reactive behaviours towards other canines. Füsti is so driven and simply needs to be taught what to do instead. What an awesome personality wrapped in a small dog package. I'm excited for you and your Mama's, Füsti, you're going places!💯

I had a consultation back in January with this lovely Shar Pei named Moon. Her family had just moved to NL and were struggling to leave her home alone.🐶

They took all of my suggestions on board and (with training) were able to leave her alone for up to 5 hours without issues! However, circumstances meant they had to move address once more, so I'm back to make sure we're on the same page and pick up where we left off. It was lovely to catch up guys, let's get to work!💪

This 4 year old Kokoni had a wonderful introduction to training earlier today. Our boy has a few bites under his belt but beneath all that barking and charging hides a very insecure guy.🐶

We got straight to work with this fella and both he and his guardians experienced plenty of lightbulb moments and left Nero HQ with a fresh prospective. Training (at it's very core) is the craft of communicating with our canine companions. When a human learns the how, why, what and when, the dog learns that they do have other options. With practice and consistency, the puzzle falls into place. Really enjoyed our session today guys and very pleased with how well you all adapted. Time to get to work!💪

Beanie's first stooge session! This sweet Spaniel is an eager beaver when it comes to dog and human greetings. With a history of constant leash pulling, it was becoming quite the chore to walk Beanie. After a few weeks of practice and introducing new concepts, we decided to have our next training in the form of a stooge session. This is where I call other Nero Network members to aid our learning and everyone gets the opportunity to practice with other dogs. Rehearse before real life, drills before skills and all that Jazz. Big thanks to Shiva, Moos and Padme for lending a paw. We've still got plenty of proofing to do but my oh my, how far Beanie has come! Always appreciate a reactivity update! These guys have been such a delight to work with and are a shining example of what is possible if you are willing to change your own habits..."We have noticed such huge changes in him recently - he’s like a different dog! Walks used to be so stressful and now he walks loose lead, and even walks well off lead (I’ve put in a couple of videos for you), is much better with other dogs and we can even take him to cafes - and all your advice has helped so much with this. Part one of the new Gun Dog Workshop was a success! With a variety breeds (a King Charles Spaniel, Cobberdog, Malinois, Flatcoat, Labradoodle and two young Labradors) we worked our way through chaining a retrieve, introduced real game, proofing a hold, heeling with distractions and scent tracking! What'SUP dog?! So proud of my boy getting on my board for the first time with zero hesitations. If you have trust, you can do anything! Here's to our maiden voyage buddy, we totally rocked (or didn't rock) the "boat!"👏🏄‍♀️ Note: this was the only time I was brave enough to get my phone out. We stayed on the water just a short while as I wanted to be sure our first experience ended on a positive. Trust me when I say that when a dog of this size moves (even just shifting his weight from one hip to the other) you NEED good balance to stay steady. I'm so proud of us both. Training tip: walking your dog doesn't have to be about covering as much distance as possible. It's just as useful to train out on your street and neighbouring streets to slow down the mind and build relevance in a familiar environment. If your dog is struggling to engage when outdoors, practice at home then in the garden and then on the pavement outside your front door. There are SO many layers to training a dog.🐕 Matilda has been wary of her harness and general husbandry care since a young age due to many medical procedures. We've been busy building our communication by making use of a keep going marker and nose target and adding the harness in as a distraction. Our reward placement is AWAY from the harness so Matilda can return for another round (creating a new memory) and reduce any hesitations.😇 You can see she is cautious but by keeping our sessions short, sweet and random, we are changing how she views this piece of equipment.
