Had the pleasure of walking with these beautiful big lady's last week. We came across them during our pack walk. It took a little getting used to for my dogs, most of my pack have never dealt with great Danes before. It could not have gone any better. They were very sweet and very well socialized.
Hope to have more walks like this 🤩🤩🤩

I Haven't introduced you to my newest pack members yet. On the left Frances, a beautiful mix of hunt8ng breeds and on the right Loetje a boeren fox (farmers fox) terrier mix. The boeren fox is a Dutch breed which isn't recognized yet, which probably is for the best considering what is happening at the moment with a lot of (designer) breeds.

Working with our own dog.
This is Sekhmet a mixed breed that together with another dog came out of the woods and begged for help at my husband's old place in Mississippi. She was still a puppy and presumably dumped. No food for days and a bad case of giardia. When no one claimed the dogs we decided to keep them.

She's very sweet, but also a hand full. She can go from 0 to 100 in a second on the excitement meter. Which is kinda what happened here. When this happens and all other calming exercises fail because she is too exited, this is what we have to do to calm her down again.
We lay her down on the ground and restrict her movement completely until her mind surrenders and she is calm again.
We don't use a lot of force and this has nothing to do with trying to show her who's boss or "dominating" her, just calming her down so she is able to process information and communicate again.

This technique is not to be taken lightly, it is very important you know what to do, how to do it and when to do it. This is literally a last resort, when all else fails! On this occasion I was teaching my husband how to do this. As you can see he is petting her (slowly) and he's talking to her, all to help her calm down.

When he was done and she was calm again she started using her nose again and working out sent trails she found. Each leading to a deer bone. This field is right next to the city dumping ground for roadkill. Coyotes probably steal some of it from the vultures and spread some around. She loves to find the bones, touch them with her nose before finding the next one. Then when we go home she's all happy, tired and satisfied 🤩

Waiting for the owners of this doodle I managed to put a leash on. Happy I know a thing or two about dog language, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to catch this dog. He is a friendly but scared little fellow. Fortunately the owners are on their way.
Sorry pups, you're gonna have to wait a little till this little fellow is reunited with his owner before we can start a our walk..
Apparently he ran away from a dogwalking service. He just got picked up again

Said goodbye to my friend's dog and Ari's best friend Sverre last week. He got to be almost 15 years old.
He was one of those one in a million dogs. The sweetest and most gentle dog you could imagine. He will be missed ❤️❤️❤️

Last weekend a friend of mine organized a camping trip. It was a great weekend, everybody had a lot of fun.

The owners of the camping ground have a medium sized dog named Bowie. A great little dog. He only had one problem. He is quite insecure and barked at every one that walks by or comes close. Of course I noticed immediately what was going on and I just could not help myself, so I asked if they wanted to change that behaviour. They welcomed my help. They were trying very hard themselves already, but just needed a little extra help.
Within one day he improved so much, I was so happy with the result. Most importantly Bowie was a lot more at ease and calm. He's not there just yet, but of course change doesn't happen over night.
Keep up the good work and he will be a different dog in a little while 🤩🤩🤩

Walking with Barry. His biggest problem was leaving all the food alone that he finds in the streets. Just by getting his excitement down made it easier to control that behavior as well. The walks become a lot more relaxed and fun for the owner as well. Well done, keep up the good work 🐾🍀🤩

Hunting/fetching class with Nora. She is more than a handful. Extremely high in energy, but her owners have worked really hard with her and it is paying of. She is becoming more focused and is a lot better in controlling her energy. I'm proud of her owners for stepping up to the plate and of course Nora. Well done 🐾🍀🤩

Crazy puppy

Yesterday I got a call if i could please help with this pup because she got out of control. She was overstimulated and couldn't control herself anymore. Didn't rest enough and therefore got worse. Luckily I knew what to do and how to help calm this beautiful pup down again. Within the hour she fell asleep like a baby. Completely exhausted. They now have the tools to handle and help their puppy. Was happy to be able to help the owners and the pup 🐾🍀🤩

Walking in the city

Haruki paying attention to his owner instead of going crazy whenever a bike or car goes by. This beautiful boy hit puberty and was getting out of control, so we did another training session of walking on a loose leash and it went really great! Proud of you guys!

Gedrag

Vorige week een privé les gedaan met Ramses. Hij was altijd aan het trekken aan de lijn en door zijn opwinding en niet goed weten hoe zich te gedragen agressief naar andere honden. Waar kun je dit beter oefenen dan in het Vondelpark. Baasje en hond hebben nog wat te oefenen, maar gaat de goede kant op!
