Horse won’t load 😡😡😤😤
Whilst this picture resonates with so many of us. 😤
The absolute frustration & often embarrassment of not being able to load your own horse in view of the whole show ground .
Trying to load your horse after you’ve been to an event and they just plant their feet at the bottom of the ramp 😤
Then you get folk with good intentions coming to help you. Lunge whips, lunge lines, control head-collars, buckets of feed, even tacking the horse up & riding it in.
In my experience, iv found horses that refuse to load usually have a pain issue. The movement of the trailer or box irritates/hurts them.
Once they’ve competed, the muscles have worked hard & are often in spasm. The angle of the ramp can often be to much for them to walk up never mind the movement of the vehicle on the journey home.
Yes you can use the ‘nice, be kind ’ headcollars that have those little knots that put pressure on the head to force your horse to load. But I’d like to find out why my horse won’t load in the first place. And it’s usually a pain response.
I remember many years ago before I became qualified as a bodyworker, my horse stopped loading. Many told me ‘ He’s just being naughty give him a crack’ 🤦♀️ How many times do we hear that!!
Next time this happens & your horse won’t load try & find a bodyworker on the show ground ( ask the secretary to make an announcement over the tannoy) to see if they can free your horse’s back up. Because your horse could have an underlying issue like my horse had. Once his back was manipulated he never refused to load again 🙌
It’s worth a try
