So just a little update since it's been a while.
Due to the covid situation we are very carefully planning our litters.
Fortunately we have a litter planned in about 3 weeks which i'm really excited about! Hopefully this pairing will greatly reduce the amount of silvering in our black selfs! Can't wait to post some updates :D

Throwback thursday to the godfather, Toothless.

Although i would've wished that this wasn't a throwback and Tooth would've still been alive and well.. Sadly Toothless died completely unexpectedly in his sleep last year...🙁
He was just amazing! We all still miss him.

This special young lady is Pootjes. She is just amazing!
Pootjes has a very energetic character. She is very sweet towards me but also is usually upto alot of mischief! Even though she has a handicap i think Pootjes is very beautiful and has a very rich colour!

Contrary to rumors spread by another breeder that Pootjes her paw deformity supposedly was genetic (with 0 knowledge of the case or ever having seen Pootjes in person) Pootjes actually was born with a paw deformity due to being constricted with her paw in her mother's uterus.
Fortunately Pootjes has no idea she is handicapped. Her paw has a good blood circulation, the only thing we have to do for her is clip her nails every once in a while. Other than that she is a perfectly happy rat!

A question we got alot this week was; Are the blackhearts really that black?
Well here's a picture of the litter in a completely normal setting/lightning taken with a samsung cellphone. As you can see some are just a tiny bit lighter, others really have that pitch black color you see on the studio photos. While we love and care for every baby equally it's the pictures of the blackest of the litter who end up being posted on Blackheart rats 😉

We mostly photograph our rats in a studio setting which obviously will make them look extra pretty (just as about anything you photograph in a studio). But it's important to realize that a studio can only enhance the beauty the animal already possesses . It's impossible to create traits that aren't there to begin with.

So this is the first black self litter of 2020.
For this litter we chose the combination of Luna JR and Batman, both impressive black selfs due to the deepness of their colour.

Luna Jr gave birth to 16 beautiful black selfs.
Unfortunately we had a little setback because some of the toes of the babies aren't as black as we hoped for. This will be something we will try and improve on the next generation.
For now we are very happy with the depth of the colour!

We will keep you updated in the next couple of weeks on how the babies develop! :)

We know it has been a while since we last updated this page with some awesome black selfs. But not to worry! We have an awesome litter planned very soon and we plan on doing photoshoots with the mature black selfs aswell!

2020 policy changes & plans:

Breeding plans:

--Royal Rats--

Red eyed devil line:
We have 2 main focus points for our red eyed devil line for 2020. First of all we are going to improve on temperament and secondly we are going to focus on enlarging the size of the rats.

Agouti line 1:
Focus points are improving on eyes, head and temperament.

Bye bye Husky:
Although we jokingly came up with the saying 'there's always one husky' hopefully in 2020 we will finally wave farewell to the husky's popping up in our litters. (wishful thinking, i know, i know)

Siamese attempt:
In mid 2020 we are trying a new attempt to breed Siamese. Priorities are health and temperament. After we nailed that we will focus on esthetics.

--Blackheart Rats--

Black selfs:
Focus this year is primarily on reducing silvering plus increasing size.

Agouti line 2:
Strictly a 'by-product' of breeding black selfs they are anything but a by-product! These agouti are very dark, just the way i like them. Obviously since we are focussing on increasing size with the black selfs the agouti will aswell

--Little Nikki's--

2020 will be the start of our brand new dwarf rat line!
When ready the Little Nikki page will go live to spam you with a whole lot of dwarf pictures! Stay tuned!

Policy changes:

1. New years resolution: Immediate banning of Trolls & Keyboardwarriors:
Alot of negativity in 2019 came from keyboardwarriors who always know 'best'! No more i say you. We've found out that facebook designed this handy button which will immediately ban you from our pages. For 2020 we plan to use this button. Alot.

This is a page for rats and entertainment, not your delusional view of the world. I've rather got 20 sane people on here than 200 of them idiots. Got something to say about our breeding program? Here's a word of advice; Start your own breeding program.

2. Facebook as a communication platform:
In mid 2019, in response to the PETA purge of animal pages, we were forced to look for alternatives to facebook to ensure our survival. Although there was a minor migration to the Mewe platform, technically Mewe wasn't up to the challenge. With the absence of alternatives or the lack of will of people to switch to alternatives we are condemned to switch back to facebook for our main platform, much to our dismay.

3. Our content:
The pictures used on our website and subsequently also used on facebook are free to use and share as long as you don't remove the original watermark and don't make money from it. We explicitly forbid the use of our images in a commercial way.

We have some exceptions to free content use. We choose not to collaborate with some parties. Those parties are informed of our wish of them not to use our content and we trust them to respect our wishes.

Due to extreme yoga practice in her mothers uterus Pootjes managed to be born with a paw deformity.
Obviously i observed her development closely and because she isn't bothered by her paw it doesn't need to be amputated.

Apart from her handicap Pootjes is doing really well! She is very friendly, very adventurous and has a very playful personality!🖤

Some of the adult ladies decided to pick on Pootjes so she currently is queen of my dwarf rat population!😄

So we have alot of black self babies now and they are developing just fine! 🖤

Unfortunately they are all changing fur now so their colour might be a bit dull at the moment... But that's all part of the progress from baby to rat :)
I really like their build though! I sure hope they keep developing as well as this!😍
