Today as a big day for Champakali and her daughter Sitakali. Champakali took a brave step towards the road, with Sitakali by her side. Surprisingly, we didn’t even need to use Champakali’s favorite snacks to get her moving – she was determined all on her own. As she walked, we saw her struggle sometimes, lifting her feet up or dragging them along. But she never gave up.
We’re proud of her determination and can’t wait for the day she confidently walks back into the forest.

Update on Champakali :
Champa is getting better. She eats fast now and wants to walk. She grabs grass on her own and enjoys it in the shelter. Her eyes look more awake. But she’s not drinking water well and can’t sleep properly, maybe because she’s scared she won’t wake up. Hopefully, soon she’ll be strong enough to go to the river and graze in the forest.
Today at dusk, Champakali was filmed grabbing extra corn for herself to munch on at night after seeing her caretakers storing some in her shelter. A touching display of her growing independence and resourcefulness.
Elephants show love through their trunks, a powerful tool for communication and affection. Through gentle touches, tender embraces, and comforting caresses, they express their deep bonds with family members. Join us on a journey into the heartwarming world of elephant love and care.
PS: See how they create infinity sign with their trunk. Does this mean they love each other till infinity?

Introducing Baby Shuvalaxmi’s latest milestone: learning to quench her thirst!
From mimicking her family’s behavior with the hose to mastering the art of drinking directly from her mouth in the forest, she’s showing remarkable adaptability and curiosity.
Did you know that baby elephants typically start experimenting with solid food, like grasses and leaves, at around six months old?
As for drinking water, they usually begin shortly after birth, guided by their mothers and other herd members.
It’s incredible to witness Shuvalaxmi’s journey as she grows and learns. Stay tuned for more adorable moments from this little explorer!

Update on Champa
We’re overjoyed to share some positive progress with you all! Despite not being able to walk down to the river, Champa took a bath at camp independently. Even more exciting, she drank plenty of water yesterday for the first time since her collapse! Though she’s moving slowly, she’s making strides—literally! Champa is now walking and eating, albeit at a slower pace, and she’s even lifting her feet occasionally while walking. Each step forward is a victory, and we’re incredibly grateful for your support and encouragement on Champa’s journey to recovery. Thank you for being a part of this incredible community!

Update on Champakali: Champakali, has faced some recent health challenges. On March 28th, she engaged in a fight with Rupakali, leaving her injured and unable to rise for over 24 hours. Her left front foot was severely hurt, hindering her mobility. Then, on April 13th, she suffered another setback, collapsing while trying to eat bamboo tree near her shelter at night resulting in bruises that have now turned into wounds. Champakali is struggling to eat, drink, and walk, despite efforts to entice her with foods she used to love. Our dedicated team, including veterinarians and caretakers, are administering medications and Ayurvedic remedies to manage her pain and inflammation. We remain hopeful for Champakali’s recovery, but she needs our love, prayers and support now more than ever. Let’s send her healing vibes and positive energy during this challenging time.
