DIY yeast and sugar co2. Works well with the right method. Here the airpipe is connected to the inlet of the filter which diffuses the gas making the filter as a co2 reactor, doesn't require a lot of pressure since no co2 diffuser us used. Better than adding no co2.

Requirement:
Air pipe connector
2ltr bottle
1ltr water
Bubble counter(optional)
1/2 teaspoonYeast
1 cup Sugar
Air pipe

Make a small hole(smaller the the airpipe connector) on the cap of the bottle, push the air pipe through the hole since the caps hole is small the airpipe connector should make a seal itself when pushed through the cap. Mix 1cup sugar in 1ltr lukewarm water, the sugar should all be melted. Add the mixed water in the bottle. Now add small amount of the sugar water in a small cup or bowl, add 1/2 teaspoon of yeast and stir to activate the yeast, bubbles will start to form when the yeast is activated. Now pour the yeast into the bottle, co2 will start forming after an hour.

The mixture will last about 2-4weeks depending on room temperature, will last longer during winter season.
Also have some surface movement to gas out excess co2 in the water since co2 is released 24/7.

No 1 tip for alage control is fast growing easy green hardy plants be it co2 tank or a non co2 tank, ones that response well to trimming. Since healthy plants are less prone to algae the more plants you have the less alage will occur, that is why plants only tanks are easier to control than hardscape dominant less plants tanks. A 50% coverage of easy plants in a tank can help keep the water stable which can help in growing demanding plants, healthy plants are more effective than alage eaters to control alage. Alage will grow but they will mostly grow on filters, hardscape and the glass which can be fixed by munual cleaning during water change, add alage eaters to make this manual cleaning easier. Plants that i personally use are pearlweeds, stargrass, Limnophilla sessiliflora, rotalas, wisterias, pogestamon octopus, jungelval, floating plants, myriophyllum mattogrossonse, hygrophilla polysperma, etc.
