Cattle and sheep depend on their gut bacteria to produce thiamine also know as B1. Changes in the rumen microflora (change in diet, increase grain feed, change from poor quality grass to good lush pasture, and added stress) can change the production of B1 by the bacteria. Also excess sulphur can also lead to B1 deficiency.
B1 deficiency initial signs are animals that are depressed, appear to blind and start to stagger/lose coordination. Eventually they can’t stand up and may start to thrash around extending their neck.
However, there is a treatment. By giving an injection of B1 animals can be treated.

Conveyor team
Coming into pre-lamb, our sheep conveyor is an excellent service and reliable resource available to assist with drenching and vaccinating.
All of your required animal health treatments will be administered by technicians fully trained by our vets. We also organise equipment and products, bringing drench guns, drench packs and vaccine guns/needles. We generally get through 900 an hour, depending on how they run.
This fully resourced and organised service is designed to save you time, energy and money. Use of this service puts you in the draw for our Pre-Lamb Queenstown Promo (details further down).
