Champs week - Show jumping

Mia had a great time representing ASCNO as an individual where she joined the dressage and jumping teams for a burger and skit night, then the games team for the Dunstan pizza and quiz the following evening which made for a fun few days! Mia did us proud with a 5th placing in her 2nd round and 4th in equitation. Well done Mia! πŸ₯³

Champs week - Games team update

Tabitha and Kate were part of the ASCNO, CANT, MNMC composite games team.
The team worked so well together for not having ever meet each other. They had some fantastic heats over the 3 days which saw them come away with 4th in the South Island.
The final session was a timed competition against not only the South Island teams but points and times were put up against the north island teams from their champs last week. The final was a cracker and the team did us super proud with excellent riding and team work and their efforts were rewarded with 3rd place overall for NZ! Top honours went to Otago Southland with Canterbury coming in second.

South Island Pony Club Show Jumping championships, hosted by Ashburton area Pony Clubs
On Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th January, seven of our Tinwald PC Riders competed in the annual South Island Pony Club Showjumping Championships at the Ashburton A&P Showgrounds. This event was expertly planned and run by the Ashburton Area Committee and 22 teams attended from across the South Island.
This year, we had the following riders in the Tinwald PC team:
β€’ Juniors at 85cm – Mandy Mead and Mia Brook
β€’ Intermediates at 95cm – Nicole Schoneveld and Lily Jessup
β€’ Seniors at 105cm – Hannah Thickett and Sami Mead
We also had Kate Rickard riding as a draft rider for one of the Methven teams at 95cm.

Each team had 4-6x riders with at least one rider at each height of 85, 95 and 105cm. The four best scores from each team are taken from each round to determine the overall team places.
We had some great rounds, with three of our riders placing several times in the top 10, and most riders even took on the Joker! This was one single fence at the end of the 3rd round that is higher /more complex. If it is jumped clear you get extra points but if missed can cost, you a lot of your points from that round.
The Tinwald team placed 8th out of 22 teams, a fantastic result, having not placed in the top 10 for 24 years. The two Methven teams placed 3rd and 10th, so a fantastic result for the Ashburton area riders.
Over the two days, despite some highs and lows (as always with horses), the Tinwald riders demonstrated commitment, sportsmanship, support and determination, including getting all the horse poo picked up across the whole grounds!

We are especially appreciative of the supporters, especially those whose children were not riding, but came out to help set up, coach, sort uniforms etc.
A special thank you also to coach Susie Amos and manager Emily for their continued encouragement and wise words at crucial times!

Bring on next year and get jumping!!

Hosted by Tinwald Pony club, all the kids did so well in their dressage with our teams coming 2nd and 4th- congratulations Rakaia for winning this trophy againπŸ†
The two games teams (Tinwald & Methven) were great and had lots of fun! Tinwald taking home the Dick Hogg trophy again this yearπŸ‘
Special thanks to Tabitha & Kate, the younger girls really look up to you both and having you there to help and support them with the games is very cool😍
Special mention to:
🌟 Sophia Stocker who stepped up and slotted into Heidi's spot in the team dressage, she quickly learnt a new test and gave it a go, and then they were stars in the games!
🌟 Sophie Hart placing 1st individually in the senior section of dressage teams competition, against some very competitive combinations!

Tash and Sarah, 2 days at pony club helping with zone games yesterday and today =superstars!!πŸ’• and to those that help set up, score, write and judge, we can't hold these days without you allπŸ‘

SPRINGSTON TROPHY 2024

The Springston Trophy event for 2024 was held at Rangiora from 4-6 October.
An excited group of riders and parents headed up Thursday morning. One of the highlights that afternoon was getting to walk the Cross-Country course with Olympian Blyth Tait.
With the fabulous guidance of coach Susie Amos and Manager Lyn Chamberlain, four riders represented Tinwald Pony Club for the first time in a very long time at Springston Trophy.
We had 2x riders at Intermediate level jumping 95cm (Hannah Thickett and Nicole Schoneveld) and 2x riders at Junior level jumping 80cm (Mandy Mead and Mia Brook). (Our senior rider Sami Mead was sadly unable to ride due to her horse being injured in the lead up to the event).

The riders did superbly, supporting each other and taking on the challenges and experiences that riding at Springston Trophy brings.
The Cross-Country course was absolutely amazing but tough, leading to almost half of the 31 teams entered being eliminated on the cross country.
But not our Tinwald team!! All riders completed their rounds, a tough and determined bunch of riders and horses!

The Tinwald team finished 2nd in the 2-age Category (9x teams without a senior rider) and 15th overall out of 31....Wahoo!
Also fabulous was the laughs had, friendships strengthened, and memories made.

The riders and families sincerely thank the club for all the support that allowed us to compete in this event.
