Known as Kora Wora & Kora the Kardashion. Kora is our OG client from when we first opened 2 years ago. She's your typical Border Collie in the sense she will try herd anything that moves, her favourite being waves. Kora started with us to split some of her days up and give her some extra fun. With us, she has attended fundamental training, solo walks, and pack walks. Kora was born with a disease called 'Collie eye' and recently had to get one of her eyes removed due to a severe infection. Her snazzy glasses are to protect her remaining eye.

We've been focusing a lot on switching up our pack walk locations as of late. This is to help expose and desensitize our packs to the hustle and bustle of the outside world rather than just the tranquility of the forest and reduce the expectations of off leash freedom.

The hard work is paying off😍

● FUNDAMENTAL TRAINING

Do you have a new dog in the family that knows the basics, a young dog going through adolescence that is starting to push the boundaries or an older dog with behavioural issues? In our fundamental training program, we cover a variety of things such as generalized obedience, anxiety, reactivity towards dogs or humans, off-leash recall, on-off leash engagement, etc. These sessions are tailored to each dogs’ individual needs and requirements.

● ADVENTURE PACK WALK

Structured adventure pack (group) walk focusing on loose leash walking as a pack, off leash follows, recall, basic manners and socialisation - Exploring some of Auckland’s most beautiful and serene beaches, forests, reserve’s, lakes, bushes and much more! This is essentially an all-day adventure so please expect your pup to be gone for 2-5 hours and return home needing a bath!

This service is only suitable for clients who have attended a solo walk as a pre-determination to see if your dog is pack ready.

● PUPPY DEVELOPMENT

Our puppy development programs are tailored to dogs 12mo and under or any older dogs that may need teaching of basic commands, are highly anxious or hyperactive and have had little to no human or dog socialization outside of the home. During the puppy development program we will cover training of basic commands (sit, down, wait, okay, come, stay, leave, off) name recognition, crate training, basic leash manners such as walking in a heel with a loose leash, sitting when stopping etc. General manners and behaviour, on leash recall, exposure and desensitization as well as socialization - (This involves training around human-populated areas, in shops, around traffic, loud noises, people and dogs)

All puppy development programs will begin in the home where the dog is most comfortable. During these sessions, we work closely with you to guide you on how to best support your dog in this crucial age period. As we progress I will give you homework, recommend purchases to aid in training, and suggest owner coaching sessions when I think your pup is ready for the next step.

● SOLO WALKS

Does your dog enjoy a quiet stroll on their own? Not quite social enough for pack walks but loves adventuring? Enjoys the company of people over dogs? Do you only have time for an on-lead street walk by the time you get home from work? This service is perfect for you and is completely tailored towards your specific dog/s and their needs. We will venture out to your local parks, beaches, reserves, shops, bushes and the occasional street walk. During solo walks we touch up on and upkeep, loose leash walking, basic commands on/off leash recall and general manners and behaviour.

Why Mutts with Manners?

Pictured above is my personal/family dog Indi.

Indi is what we would call a reactive dog. This doesn't mean she's aggressive, mean, naughty, or a bad dog. Reactivity comes from insecurity and a lack of exposure.

Indi is my first ever dog and I knew absolutely nothing. My parents thought they were buying a quiet little fluff ball that didn't need anything more than love. German Spitz are extremely high energy with a high prey drive. They were originally bred to sit on mountain tops and overlook their land, barking at anything that moves to alert their owners.
I had extremely bad anxiety so Indi didn't leave the house much, at least not during the vital human/dog socialization and fear impact periods (Crucial times of the puppies life when socialization and exposure are key to bringing up a well-balanced, good-natured, happy dog). This led to extreme reactivity whenever she did leave the house, barking and lunging at everything, screaming, no leash manners or recall, etc. (Sound familiar...)?

4 years later I'm happy to say Indi can now happily tolerate other dogs being in her space, can attend pack walks of 15+ dogs, go to pet stores, cafes, beaches and parks. Indi can walk in an off-lead heel with no reactivity to passers-by. I never thought I'd be able to say I love going for walks with my dog. She still has her bad days and from her lack of exposure has developed hyperactivity so she struggles to control herself in some situations. It's hard to remember during those moments that years ago I literally couldn't take my dog out of the front door without her having a full-blown meltdown.

With that said, my purpose for Mutts with Manners is to help people in a similar position and prevent the potential for any arising behavioural problems right from the beginning. This is why we cater to every need of yours as a dog owner.

Mutts with Manners was established in early 2022 by myself, Tamsyn. To provide all the training, advice, and tools necessary to set your dog up for success. Allowing you to live life to the fullest with your best friend.
Holding certificates in animal care, dog behaviour psychology & training, and pet first aid as well as working in the industry for 6+ years you can be assured I have the knowledge and skills necessary to assist you as a dog owner as well as your pet.
