Genetics matter.
Genetics matter.
This might be a hard watch for some, but with the booming puppy culture over the past few years it seems like something that should be highlighted. This is a dog I worked with a few years ago, the dog in this video is under 10 months old. This dog had some crazy nerves, along with some bite history and an almost non existent amount of socialisation with other dogs before working with me. It goes without saying that this sort of behaviour, in a dog of that age, is alarming. Undoubtedly, there is no denying that some factors that lead to the dog displaying this sort of behaviour that young, were due to environmental factors - but, this dog is only one out of 6 (all from different litters) that I’ve personally worked with who have all displayed similar issues at similar ages. The kennel that this dog is from is a registered breeder, and is well known for breeding specific colour/s - but it seems clear (from my experience with dogs they’ve produced) that there isn’t much regard for temperament. I think the point of this post goes without saying - but the moral of the story here is that anybody can produce dogs, not everybody produces good dogs. Do your research, ask questions, educate yourself.
If you know Charlie, you know he’s a special dog. Not because he’s a fancy sport dog or a pedigree breed, because he’s none of those things, but because I owe a lot of my career and my knowledge to him and our journey together. I wasn’t looking for a dog when I adopted him, but I realised soon after that he was 100% the dog I needed. Through my experiences in owning him and the struggles that initially came with, I’ve matured immensely as a handler and my understanding of breeds like him is much more diverse. People love to label these dogs as “lazy, nanny dogs” when in reality they are extremely powerful, hard working, smart, biddable, loyal and very adaptable dogs. In the wrong hands, they are and will be dangerous. I’ve come to realise over the years that I’ve owned him, how much of his potential has been suppressed due to previous experiences and because of that his capability’s as anything more than a pet dog are next to none - but now that we understand each other in a sustainable and communicative manner, having fun learning new things is a lot more enjoyable.
Bit of a development day today with the Tuesday pack. With a few newbies on board, we work the pack in one/two dogs at a time as the dogs settle to work through our leash manners/leash pressure to reset the pack dynamic and make sure expectations are clear. ✌️

A small snippet into a day in the life ✌️
We thought it was about time we update everybody with what me and the packs have been up to lately. Now running off of our private, fully fenced and purpose built dog farm - we’ve teamed up with Steph from A Dogs Life to bring an even bigger pack experience to the dogs! Our aim is still the same, to provide structured pack socialisation and exercise in a fun and safe environment. The added benefits of the property allow us to bring in new dogs within a safe and fun (but balanced) space without pressure from the general public - an absolute game changer for those dogs who might be a little nervous, or still working on their recall/socialisation and manners. Additionally, it allows us the opportunity to integrate all of our younger pups/dogs to the packs in a controlled and safe environment - supporting that much needed socialisation in their first few months. Behind the scenes, we’ve been spending all of our spare time kitting out the farm with our dream dog playground - with a huge ten acres, we are a bit spoilt for space! Although collectively we now run together, our businesses behind the scenes are still seperate.
Make sure you follow our extended pack family at A Dogs Life to keep up with our antics 🤭

Free time isn’t a right around here, it’s earnt. This is only a small snippet of how we start our day - after I’ve let the dogs out one by one to decompress, followed by a group down and the dogs then released in pairs to free time. Walks back to the car are usually spent on lead or in a pack follow, dogs are individually recalled at random to test their engagement and new dogs always start on leash to learn the basics of communication, applying pressure, turning pressure off, and making sure they understand how to read body language from other dogs. This stuff is all just as important as the “fun stuff” you see in the photos we post, it helps us keep the dogs at a level state of mind and teach them how to have good pack drive. Trust the process!
