Through no fault of his own - one of our much loved pack members, Duke, is looking for a new home. Duke is an 18 month old medium mixed breed - he is desexed, crate trained, great with kids, good with cats. Duke has been a member of our packs for well over a year now, and is a social butterfly with other dogs - however, like most dogs, he needs an owner who knows how to handle boisterous dogs and will upkeep existing training. His recall is good, and his manners on leash are almost un-faultable. He loves a cuddle and is a big home body at the end of the day, but would be a perfect dog for an active owner who enjoys being outdoors. Duke would do well both in a home on his own, or, with other dogs (with the right introductions). Please note that there are no rehoming costs for Duke, our only objective is to find him the best forever home - however, all potential homes will be vetted thoroughly.

Welcomed our newest member of our northshore pack Maggie the staffy. In photos she is big, bold and looks that kill but in person she is petite and and very cute. Did I mention that she also is abit crazy🤣🤣 Overall an awesome dog to work with.

This girl has completed a board and train with Chloe from and can really see change from what she would have been to now👏👏. Her transition to the packs has really been seamless. There will always be things we will constantly work on but I am greatful for the owners for putting their best foot in to get Maggie on the right track.

These high drive breeds are not your typical couch potatoes and certainly not at a young age. They will do what they can when they can if given the chance. If not given the right circumstances with the correct training these dogs usually fail. Mostly because some dogs aren't best suited for owners and some owners are suited for that dog. We see this soo much these days and it's due to the dogs lack of biological fulfillment. Giving the dog what the breed was intended for or a simulation of it will ensure that mental and physical needs are met for you to enjoy a more all rounded dog. By not giving the dog what it needs I'm sure it doesn't need further explaining.

Overall big props to Maggie's owners as well as for doing an awesome job. Look forward to seeing how much she will achieve in the future.

If there’s one thing I love about dogs, it’s doing cool s**t with dogs. I was lucky enough to attend the GAK9 workshop recently. After originally planning to attend the workshop with Bandit, he injured himself and Charlie got subbed in last minute. Charlie has no prior experience tracking, and he’s an old boy (not that it ever slows him down), so really we went into it for a bit of fun - but he suprised us all by cracking it the first few days and surging through not only the fire trails, but modified starts, cold starts and even hitting corners while figuring out how to redirect to the track with odour pooling.

We made our best attempt at pushing him through some cold starts on leash, but the extra freedom to make his own choices (and some subtle handler errors) lead him to become a bit unsure of himself and it just wasn’t quite there. That presented its challenges (and disappointment), but, highlighted how strong our relationship is, and how much value he holds in following my direction - which after years of hard work rehabbing this dog, was a bit of a testament to how far we’ve come in other aspects of our journey together. A bitter sweet silver lining!

He’s the oldest dog Jeremy has run through the GAK9 system, and in just a few days made as much progress as what would take others months. This was a bit of a hard and emotional experience for me learning how to deal with failure following mass successes, but for a nine year old pitty with not a single ounce of prior experience or exposure to tracking, among a group of Belgian Malinois, i’m stoked with how much this dog always has to give. Dogs are so much more capable than the average owner leads on to believe - and while having purpose bred working dogs definitely has its advantages when it comes to sports (among other things) nothing is more biddable than a dog that’s formed a solid working relationship with you! Everybody has something to learn and it’s never too late to teach an old dog new tricks.

In any industry, it’s only natural that a lot of clients come and go, but when you get the ones who stick with you for the long haul it’s always a pleasure to see them grow. Bowie was only a puppy when he started with me (not that you’d know, at six months old he was already just as tall as me on two feet), but even at that age he didn’t lack personality! From the beginning he was always a spicy little dog, and just to add more hurdles in his journey he only got one training session in with me before covid lockdown put him in prison at home for a few months - but Bowie’s owners always put in the hard yards and follow any advice I give them and get the work done. Nonetheless, four years later he’s still here adventuring with us every week without fail and among all his little quirks is definitely what I would consider to be one of our “foundation” dogs. In many ways than not these guys become an extended part of our own dogs, particularly when they’re with us for so long, and it’s honestly just such a privilege to be able to work with clients like this. We love you Bo - even if you do leave half your coat behind in the van after a walk! 😅

Genetics matter.

This might be a hard watch for some, but with the booming puppy culture over the past few years it seems like something that should be highlighted. This is a dog I worked with a few years ago, the dog in this video is under 10 months old. This dog had some crazy nerves, along with some bite history and an almost non existent amount of socialisation with other dogs before working with me. It goes without saying that this sort of behaviour, in a dog of that age, is alarming. Undoubtedly, there is no denying that some factors that lead to the dog displaying this sort of behaviour that young, were due to environmental factors - but, this dog is only one out of 6 (all from different litters) that I’ve personally worked with who have all displayed similar issues at similar ages. The kennel that this dog is from is a registered breeder, and is well known for breeding specific colour/s - but it seems clear (from my experience with dogs they’ve produced) that there isn’t much regard for temperament. I think the point of this post goes without saying - but the moral of the story here is that anybody can produce dogs, not everybody produces good dogs. Do your research, ask questions, educate yourself.

New boy, Finn (far right), started with our Monday & Wednesday packs two months ago now and has made such amazing progress. After a string of unfortunate run ins with other dogs in the neighbourhood he became fearful and reactive towards new people and dogs, still showing some nerves (but willing to work through them with the right motivators) when he first started with us - he’s now running out the door to greet the rest of the pack when he hears the van pull into the driveway for his pick up, instigating play with the other dogs and is quickly progressing to more freedoms off leash on the long line. Not only that, but his owner has seen a significant shift (and noticeably less reactivity, with quicker recovery) when they’re out walking as well. Working with dogs is a pleasure in itself but seeing dogs come out of their shell like this through something as simple (yet affective) as structured, appropriate socialisation is irreplaceable 🤝
