Last week, we had happy Hopey here to stay.
She's a 9 year old German Short-haired Pointer cross and is very sweet around us. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for her comfort around other dogs. She is very defensively reactive, and this hampers her daily life somewhat. She also has arthritis and sensitivities from a previous ruptured cruciate ligament, so she takes a few different medications regularly.
She loves playing with the kids and if they kick a ball around with her in the garden, she's in heaven!! 🤩 (She's also very good at sneaking the ball indoors too, when she thinks I haven't noticed....)

Today, Pets And Plants At Home welcomed a new set of fluffy paws into the crew! 🐾 Hello Paddington!
Paddy is a 4 month old Cavoodle (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Poodle) and is a gorgeous bundle of bitey puppiness. Outdoor bushes, leaves and all these different smells are a wonder, and he is full of fascination!!! We met a couple of other dogs on our morning walk earlier, including a 5 month old Labrador puppy - THAT was an exciting few minutes of instant friendship and playtime! 🤎🖤

Tip of the day : We should all live as puppies do - like everything is an adventure! 💫

Sometimes my staying dogs can meet and join up for a few hours, a day or even longer if need be! 🐾 🐾
I only tend to have 2 pups board with us here at any one time, simply because of car trip logistics and walking them on my own during the day. Any more can get a bit squashed and tangled! 😄

Today Maya the Spoodle had Leia the Swiss German Shepherd come to share with her for a while.
Both girls are a little clingy and insecure, (Maya in particular likes to think I'm HERS ONLY!) but a good sniffy walk and a play in the garden together bonded them closer....

I only mix pups if I know their personalities will cope being in close range with another new buddy, and it can be good stimulation for them too! Not too much to deal with like kennels can be, but just enough to enjoy a bit of canine company. 🤎🖤

Malmo's back! 🇸🇪 🐾 This fluffy ball of crazy Swedish Valhund energy has come to stay again for a few days while his pawrents are jetting off separately around the world...

He LOVES kids, he LOVES other dogs, he LOVES people giving him any kind of attention, he LOVES playing fetch with anything allll day long, he's absolutely obsessed with balls and he even pees and poops as he walks. Who's got time to stop??
Not Malmo. 🤣

As spring is springing, an important warning to take notice of!
I love daffs, but I'll be sure to keep them out of the way of my boarding doggos. 💛

❗Daffodils are toxic to pets and even horses. The entire plant is poisonous, but the bulbs are particularly dangerous. ❗

🌼Daffodils contain lycorine that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and even more severe symptoms if ingested in large amounts. ⚠

If you suspect your pet has ingested any part of a daffodil, please book your pet in to see us immediately! 🐶🐱

☆ Did you know....? ☆

Before our beloved Poppy left us, I only did house visits for cats, dogs, bunnies, birds and other pets. Since then, her legacy has allowed me to open up our home so dogs can board in a family environment here rather than be in kennels, and I'm so grateful to all my lovely clients that business boomed! ❤️

It's got to the stage where I'm very booked with my boarders, even with dates taken right up until October 2025 at the moment! 🙃 (I'm not complaining at all, I'm beyond lucky to be in this position!)
But a few clients didn't realise that I can still come and see your pup/s in your own home despite having a boarder or two at mine. If the dates you need aren't available for home boarding with me, I am more than happy to arrange daily visits to break up those long hours that you'll be away. 🏠

An hour's visit usually right in the middle of your absence would include a good walk, any meds or feeding that they may need and of course, the very important cuddles and playtime!
If you'd prefer a couple of visits a day, maybe morning and afternoon then that can be arranged too. This option might work better if I unfortunately can't have your fluffs at mine, but you (or someone) will be back in the evening perhaps.

Send me a message or give me a call to chat further, and we can arrange a meet-and-greet at yours so I'm not a stranger coming to petsit on the days you need me. I always get the best welcome when they realise I'm back to visit them again! 🥰 🐾
When your dog is happy, I'm happy too.

My darling Elsie. 🧡
You belonged to a dear friend, but you had your own special place in my heart. I fell in love with you from the first time we met, and I'm honoured I got to look after you so many times over the last couple of years.

You were such a sweet, gentle girl who gave so much love back... and you made us laugh keeping your little sister Ivy in line when she was annoying you!
I have so many lovely memories of you, my special beauty. This family adored you like our own, and you'll never be forgotten.

Now go have fun and play with our Poppy up there, and we'll meet again one day. I'll even bring your favourite treats with me.

It's been a couple of months since I've last posted - since then, we've been to Cairns and back and it's been a flurry of fluffies staying and being visited either side of our trip!
Miss 8 wanted to bring Milo, the black-headed python home to NZ as a pet. (She held him around her shoulders and in her hands, then fell in love with him) but we didn't think that was really going to work too well. (!) Master 10 got his fix too, holding Tinkerbell the baby crocodile and we all got to have a cuddle each with Kiki the gorgeous koala. 🐨

I always miss my dogs (well, if we're being technical...𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 dogs) whenever we have a break and travel somewhere, so it's nice to be back with them again! ♡
The rest of the year is looking busy, busy with boarders 🐾 and cat visits - I'm looking forward to many more happy days and adventures with them all for the second half of 2024!

What a hoppy Easter we all had here! 🐰 🐣
I was lucky enough to look after all these fluffy-bums while their pawrents were/are enjoying a deserved break away.
First day back to normality, and I've been treated by looking after a teeny Springer Spaniel baby girl, all of just 12 weeks old! 🤎🤍

Best job in the world. Fact.

Chilled out Molly & Marley ♡♡ have gone home for a bit, but in the meantime.......... welcome Malmo!
This crazy little bomb of hyperactivity AKA a Swedish Valhund has come to stay again for the weekend and he'll certainly be keeping us busy playing tussel with his teddies, bouncing balls in the garden (he's addicted!! 🏀 ) and woofing at anything that walks past the house or lands in the garden!

Did you know that this breed is often called the 'Wolf Corgi' due to their similarities? And that these dogs are born with differing tail lengths!

Tiggy went home after her week and we miss her so much! 💛 She overlapped with Maya for a couple of days and they became good pals - sleeping next to each other, playing in the garden and peeing on the same tree bases. 😄 Maya had a day of me all to herself, she joined her new friend Ziggy (who belongs to my friend) over at the dog park for a galavant then she went home too. 🖤 She's a regular though, so I'm lucky enough to see her again in the next few weeks.

Handsome Harry had another visit and then M&M came to stay! Molly and Marley have been to stay at mine a few times now, and we love having these 2 huge teddy bear Sheepadoodles. Such gentle pups who love their home comforts, so they'll get their full doses of that over the next week...

Baloo is having his Aunty Sonya cat visits over the weekend - he reluctantly enjoys his scavenger hunt treats I leave dotted around for him but big cuddles and kisses are strictly off limits. 😆
I love that quote that says 'Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you later.' So true!

The start of autumn brings leaf-crunching walks and cosy cuddles. It's still hot and sunny here at the moment but I'm ready for it so bring it on!

I woke up this morning really missing Poppy.
She was the 5th member of our family (well, 2nd actually as she was here before Al and the kids were!) and this will be my first Christmas without her in 15 years. 😞

For those who don't know, she passed away peacefully in my arms at the vets on April 14th. Her little kidneys just couldn't keep up any more and she was ready for her wings.
She was my 'soul dog', we went through everything together and she was my best friend in the world.
She emigrated with us during the pandemic and flew from London to Auckland via Singapore in December 2020 - she absolutely loved NZ life! The beaches, the open space and sunshine... chasing skinks and crickets, and making new doggy friends.

I hope she has a stocking and new toys up there for her to open, and Dad gives her a bit of turkey on the big day. 🎄

Looking after other people's cats and dogs has been the best grief therapy, so thank you. ♡
I'll never get over her loss properly, but I adore each and every pet that comes into my care like they are my own and I'm so lucky I get to do what I do... 🥰

Give your pet an extra big cuddle this Christmas, and I hope it's a pawsome one for you! 🐾 🐾

It's been a lovely couple of weeks here at the Pets And Plants HQ!
Elton enjoyed an extended stay (we all did!) and he managed to squeeze in another few epic walks in our stunning surroundings, here on the Pohutukawa Coast. 🌴

Then George and Ted arrived and once we got home from our morning beachy paddles, they 'helped' me with the Christmas decorations. ✨️

Sweet Maya was next, having some back-to-back daycare visits and her last day for this stint is tomorrow. We'll be looking forward to her next batch of booked in days! 🖤 Our native festive trees are in full bloom which gives a perfect backdrop to our daily walks.

And not forgetting a puppy-sitting session with the adorable 4 month old Hobbes. 😍 His older sister was able to get some much needed one-on-one time with her mama going out for a quiet walk, then back to us and to resume homelife with her crazy baby brother!
