UPDATED! Join us for the Arran Stables Christmas Show on Sunday, 22nd December 2024, with the festive theme of White Christmas! Dress up in your competition gear or casual attire—there’s a prize for the best dressed! The day will feature a combined Dressage class starting at 9 AM, where competitors can choose their level, and a fun Cowboy Challenge in the afternoon with small jumps, cones, and poles. Special awards will be given for the best theme-dressed and best competition gear-dressed horse/rider combinations. Rosettes will be awarded to 4th place in each competition. Don’t miss out on this festive, fun-filled day! 🎄🏇🎅

🔥 Hay Storage Safety 🔥

We've been deeply saddened by recent reports of fires occurring in some of our network's haybarns. While we're thankful that no animals were harmed, the loss of property and livelihood is devastating. In light of these incidents, we've done some research so you don't have to help raise awareness about the inherent risks of hay storage, especially during the summer months.

Understanding the Risks:

Hay storage, particularly during the summer season, poses significant fire hazards. One of the primary causes of hay fires is excessive moisture content, which can lead to spontaneous combustion. When hay is baled at moisture levels above 20%, it creates an environment conducive to bacterial growth and heat production, increasing the risk of combustion.

Key Prevention Measures:

Maintain Optimal Moisture Levels: Bale hay at a moisture content of 20% or less to reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion. Ensure hay is baled under appropriate weather conditions, with slight wind and humidity of 50% or less.

Monitor Temperature Regularly: Check the internal temperature of baled hay twice daily for the first six weeks after baling. Utilize appropriate monitoring tools and techniques to detect and address temperature fluctuations.

Ensure Proper Storage: Store hay in a dry and well-ventilated environment to minimize moisture accumulation. When storing hay indoors, ensure that the storage area is weathertight and has proper drainage. If storing hay outdoors, cover it with waterproof material or arrange bales to promote air circulation.

Take Immediate Action: If you suspect hay has been baled at too high a moisture content or notice abnormal temperature readings, take immediate action to address the situation. Contact local authorities or fire services for assistance if necessary.

Exciting news ( ) from Arran Stables: we've updated our Arena booking system! You can now reserve your sessions in convenient 60-minute slots directly through our page.

This change makes it easier, especially for groups, as we've moved away from the previous 30-minute increments, which could be a bit cumbersome for some bookings.

Your support means the world to us – thank you for being a part of our equestrian family and happy riding! 🌟

Such a spectacular venue for equestrian enthusiasts and if you are around this weekend you are welcome to come and spectate. There will be some hugely talented riders, food trucks and amazing views.

There's something a little bit different happening this week... ORO Dressage by the Lake is coming to Takapoto Estate! Running 24th-26th November, this is a key event on the dressage calendar, strategically timed to allow elite Grand Prix combinations to continue their quest to qualify New Zealand for a spot at two pinnacle international events:
