š¾ This year, our Introduction to the Primary Sector programme welcomed 25 students from James Cook High School to Donald's Farm! For one day, each week over three terms, these students experienced farm life firsthand learning about cows, calving, crops, soils, milking, and much more.
We also had amazing support from experts at Barenbrug NZ, NZAgbiz, Milk Bar, CropX, FIL , and our vets and AB technicians, who shared insights on careers in the industry. A highlight was visiting Gallagher Animal Management headquarters to see the tech behind farming.
Thanks to everyone involved for helping inspire the next generation! š±ššŖ

At Donald's Farm, we've recently started assessing the functional traits of our first-calvers (2-year-olds) as part of our breeding policy.
This process, known as a TOP (Traits Other than Production) assessment, helps us identify and understand traits that arenāt measured through herd testing. This allows us to make more informed breeding decisions by using this information to select specific bulls that will enhance positive traits and address any areas that may need improvement.
This strategy is an exciting step towards developing a stronger, healthier herd for the future!
š¾ Exciting updates from Donald's Farm! We have recently weighed and sorted out calves into groups.
Weāre starting the weaning process for our heavier calves, marking an important milestone in their growth.
Stay tuned for more updates on their journey!
